Yorkie on a motorcycle? A motorcycle pulled up next to me at a traffic light. The rider was carrying his yorkie in a front pouch strapped to his body. The yorkie seemed to be enjoying the ride. I am just not sure how I feel about it. My husband and I also ride and I would love to carry my baby with me on the bike. Does anyone here ride? Thoughts? |

1 Attachment(s) I do ride and my boy loves to go with me!!! He has his own jacket and doggles for eye protection. I can help you with getting a special made harness for this if you would like. They are custom made to fit your pet. Attachment 99902 |

MY FATHER ALWAYS TOOK OUR FAIMLY DOG "BLUE" (RIP) on his motorcyle all the time. she loved it. they went everywhere together. and back then, there was nothing to hold them in. |

My dad has a Harley and he really wants to take Rocky out on it. I have a Ninja (crotch rocket) so I don't think I'll be able to ride w/ Rocky on it unless I get a backpack for him. |

I have wonderd the same thing We ride and both my husbands and my family all ride so I have thought about taking Dusty on some of our day long rides but I am worried he wouldnt do good. Besides my three year old little girl is in my lap behind her daddy. She has been riding since she was about three months old and loves it. |

Ok I thought twice about posting but I see you ask for our "thoughts" so here is mine: I really wouldn't take the chance on putting my yorkie in a highly dangerous situation, I'm sure you and your husband are excellent riders and hopefully have never gotten in an accident but what happen if you do there's a chance that YOU will survive but what about your baby he will be killed instantly....You have a helmet and protective gear but what does your baby have.........Nothing. I'm just saying that I would never do anything like that its just too dangerous but thats soley MY opinion. :) I guess thats just a chance you will have to decide if you want to take or not. |

aw thats sounds REALLY cute actually! hahahaha the yorkie should have a little helmet too :) |

You can also go to Celltie and they have a bag or a custom bag for your baby when you ride. This one makes it so the baby is not so "open" in the wind. I know a lot of people that ride with their babies...my father in law and wife ride with their pom between them in a front pack and its so cute! I've thought about doing it too, but first I know my girl would take some getting used to the noise and all, and second I can't help but have thoughts like "Yorkie mommy" sometimes! Even tho I want to do it, something always tells me "what IF something happened?" You never plan to go down, but if we did, I would have so much guilt that I put her in that possition :( Mixed emotions for me, but think its ok if your ok with it ;) |

WE HAD A BMW FOR THE LONGEST TIME, BUT I DON'T THINK I WILL TAKE THE CHANCE TO HAVE MY DOG WITH ME, IN CASE OF A ACCIDENT OR SOMENTHING .TO SCARY, AND I KNOW MY HUBBY IS A EXCELLENT DRIVER, UNFORTUNATELY THERE ARE NOT SO GOOD DRIVER OUTHERE, AND WE HAD OUR SCARY TIMES. ONE NIGHT HE WAS COMMING FROM HOME AND SOME TEENS IN A CAR WAS THROWING THING AT HIM (THEY TOUGHT IF WAS FUNNY, THEY COULD KILL HIM) COUPLE TIMES TEENS IN A CAR TRYING TO RUN OS OVER OR PEOPLE TAILGATING STUF LIKE THAT. NO WAY I WILL TAKE THAT CHANCE. (IS ONLY MY OPINION):smhuge2: |

ABSOLUTELY NEVER would I let my dog ride w/ me on the motorcycle. It makes absolutely no sense. It's not that I'm afraid of falling off my bike either, it's other hitting me that I'd be concerned about. IF I fell, I'm pretty safe w/ my riding gear. My DOG??? Yeah, those Doggles and harness aren't going to prevent me from crushing him/her when I fall; nor is it going to save her noodle from getting split on the pavement. Just not worth it. Their bones/tendons/ligaments aren't going to survive a high speed fall like that even if she/he had the same amount and quality riding gear that I have on when I ride. Sorry, this is something that I'm passionate about if you can't tell. It'd be like strapping an infant to your chest imo. It simply wouldn't be done. |

I'd have to agree with YorkieK9Trainer, Yorkie Mommy and Panama69. MAY GOD BE WITH YOU and keep you safe, to all that decide to take that risk with your pet or your child on a ride. |

Yes I ride..Ive had a bike off and on all my life and have been riding again since 2004. I love my bike and I love riding..but I wouldnt, personally, take my dog or my grandchildren with me. Thats just me. Lots of people do but Im too afraid to do it. |

Wosie the Motorcycle Mama! My fur girl has been riding since she was 10 months old! Call me irresponsible if you want to, I don't care. :p I would much rather have Wosie with us then leave her at home! :( And for goodness sake, if you fire up that bike and she is NOT on it, she has such a fit, it's just not worth it, lol! Dave won't take her if he's alone, but if we go together, the Wose comes along! And 4 year old Dreama went for her first ride along with her sissy 3 weeks ago! :p She didn't seem to enjoy it as much as Wosie, but she settled down near the end and was happy to be with us! Here's a vid of Wosie on the Harley! WOSIE THE MOTORCYCLE MOMMA |

Thats a really cute video of Wosie on the bike!! How adorable!!! Love the doggles |

My husband and I ride also. I have thought about taking Hannah with us this summer but I was afraid too. We just got Hannah in December so we haven't riden since we have had her. If I did take her on a ride with us, I think it would only be on our little country road and not the main road. I did see these carriers that mount on the sissy bar rack and its made of a cage material that is non-collapsable, and that looks like the safest thing that I have seen. But I am sure that any way that you take your dog riding with you it can be a potentially dangerous situation. |

In my opinion: I didn't have the York's when we rode bikes. But I had a child and she was always with us. We had many friends who took their fur kids with them and they were all quite aware of what "could" happen. One of our closest friends is putting a sidecar on his Harley so he can take his Aussie with him on trips. My neighbor was driving through town in her car with her dog strapped in the backseat when she was sideswiped. She was OK. Her Maxi didn't make it. It hit on his side. We can love them and we can take the greatest care with them. Sometimes bad things just happen. To say that it's irresponsible for someone to want to take their pet with them when they travel is cruel. That's like saying that you can never take your pet for a walk because the leash might break and they could run into the street and get hit. We traveled the Great Lakes in our 30ft Catalina sailboat for 11 yrs. Our dogs were always with us. Maggie jumped overboard once at the dock. She swam and we pulled her out. Just call me the Thread Killer. So, go ahead and take them with you if you want to, leave them if you don't. Just think safe and live your life to the fullest. |

I don't have ride motorcycles, in fact I am terrified of them! But I do have horses. I raise and train Miniature horses to drive. Occasionally I carry one of the furkids on a ride in my cart. I need a basket to carry them in, though, driving takes two hands and it is hard to manage the reins and a Yorkie. |

The individual owner? I have my opinion on both, and while they may or may not be identical to one another, I've seen a few posters that while they would NEVER put a collar on a Yorkie, only a harness, they're more than willing to put them on a motorcycle where now not only are you a factor, but other motorists are as well. Just curious. |

well don't hate me for this but... gizmo has a backpack ..traveling one and he goes in his bag and we take him for short rides..... not all the time.. done this once.... but just my opinion.. I am a worry wart though and could only do it for a couple of minutes ..but tell you the truth he loved it... |

4 Attachment(s) Oscar loves to ride on the Harley and if we are going somewhere that he can go with, he does! He is heartbroken if he hears the Road King start up and he is not geared up to go with us. I understand that some of you are passionate that they should NOT go...but things happen...good things happen and bad things happen...but the happiness he shows us when he gets to ride is priceless, in my opinion. It is a chance I am willing to take...and we love every minute of it! Pic 1 is Oscar all geared up to ride! Pic 2 is Oscar in my lap peeking back at Glad & Wosie! Pic 3 is Oscar in my lap peeking back at Glad & Wosie again! Pic 4 is Oscar and me talking to somebody at the Harley Davidson shop in Maryville, Tennessee last year when Glad & I met up for the 1st time with hubbies and Wosie & Oscar and rode all thru the Smoky Mountains! We had a great time and hope to do it again this year! |

I take Edie bicycle riding. It is probably just as risky as motorcycle riding because you can still get hit by another vehicle. She loves it, though, and I enjoy bike riding more when she is with me. In fact, I enjoy everything more when Edie can share it with me. |

Wow.... NO Jaspersmom. What I was comparing a correction collar to was the "risks" that it poses to your small dog when being used versus the risks involved w/ putting your dog on a two wheeled object being propelled down the street at an average speed of 45 mph. THAT's what I was referring to, were the RISKS people were willing to take w/ their dogs. I'd think a car is far safer than a motorcycle...it's a traveling box w/ a limited travel if you got into an accident. A correction collar only really will hurt your small dog if it's used inappropriately PERIOD. A Unlike a motorcycle where the variables have increased SIGNIFICANTLY. Where your contact w/ the ground at high speeds is only the circumfrence of a half dollar per wheel and now, if you were to get into an accident, your Yorkie would either be rolled up and dragged underneath you or equally bad your little one gets flug high (depending on if you lowsided or highsided, or someone hit you) and w/ an unlimted travel distance (not withstanding trees/curb/other cars and so on) at a high volocity. He simply would not survive this, but he might a car and or a correction collar. That was my point. There are MANY people on this site that cringe and go "*gasp* OH! I would NEVER do" ", why risk it w/ my baby?!?" And here are a few that think that the high risk of motorcycle activity is cute and just fine....live life to the fullest. It makes no sense to me and I'm trying to figure it out. SO, if anyone needs to post up a "confused smile", I suppose that'd really have to be me! But I think I've made my point just a tad more clear. |
