| Anyone else obsessed with the health of their dogs? I have 3 dogs, one Maltie, a Yorkie, and a mix. The Yorkie is about 2, the others are 4 and 7 yrs old. The Yorkie is actually my sons and his fiance and has gone back and forth between their house and mine (long story, which I have posted here before). She was a puppy mill dog, bought in a pet store. Since he first brought this dog home for a Xmas break in college, I felt a special bond with her. I know this sounds ridiculous, but she seems so vulnerable to me and I worry so much about her. I love the other two also but never worry about them like this. She has been taken to the emergency vet 3 times in her short life...none of which proved to be anything serious, twice for an inverted sneeze (son took her once when she lived with them, I took once when she was with us), one other time for a sudden bad rash along with other symtoms. Last night I was up all night, literally, because her stomach was gurgling so loud and constantly all night and she was restless...(usually she sleeps very soundly). She kept wanting to go outside and tried to eat grass, but never actually went when we were out there. So, of course, I googled gurgling in dogs and read about all these terrible things it could imply, and then could not sleep I was so scared. I almost got up an took her to the animal hospital (luckily we have one 5 minutes away) in the middle of the night. Anyways she is fine today, I never took her in since it finally stopped and she seems herself. Now I am worried about me and my obsession. I actually missed work today because I was up all night (not as drastic as it sounds...I have tons of paid sick time to use and can justify it by saying I have been suffering for a week with a bad back ache, but still?) I should add that I am a nurse with over 20 yrs experience so I feel I am pretty knowledgable about health issues, but this little dog has me so out of my element. I worry about her like she was a child and am embarrased to admit this to anyone else. Tell me I am not crazy and not alone and any suggestions as to how to relax would be so appreciated. Thanks for reading this long post. Laura |

| I wish I had some good advice but I am the same way! Actually I took this afternoon off b/c I was up with Simon last night and I couldn't handle the thought of him not feeling well and being home alone (well he's with Hallie but it's not the same). Mine are like babies too and I worry and obssess about their health. |

| I know exactally what your talking about. It's like raising children. Same thing. I want only the best food, vet, shampoo and training for Buddy. I am going though tough times now because tonight I will not allow him to sleep with me any more. He has been growling at me in MY bed now for about 2wks. I am so upset because now he has to move to his bed. Forever at night. I am feeling so guilty but I keep thinking if my child did something not allowed I would love him enough to correct the problem, so I guess it's the samething. I want him to be the best, healthest well trained baby I can get. That just means we love them so much. Carol & Buddy |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | GOOD GRIEF I am SO there ... YTers understand why I was so anxiously waiting for my dog to poop, but somehow, my coworkers do not. Glad your baby is better. All you can do is try to react before any condition seems to get out of hand and try to think positively about all of it. Worrying only makes things worse for the both of you, something I've had to remind myself of repeatedly during the past week. They KNOW when you're stressed and it in turn stresses them which makes any condition worse. So think that you are making yourself relaxed FOR your furbaby. You'll both be happier for it. |

| THose babies that come from pet stores are mill dogs (and also the back yard breeders) and most always come with health issues. At first it's skin problems, colds, allergy's and then it just escalates into more serious issues as time goes on. I'm so sorry your caught up in these problems, and no, you are not to be ashamed or embarrassed to worry like that. They need us to take care of them the way we do. I do hope things get better for you and the Yorkie. |

| I am a mess over my dog...so much so that my friends and family make fun of me. I always had dogs growing up, but never one of my own until Reese. I just don't know what I would do if anything ever happened to her. I also got her from a store a year ago...and have had her to the emergency vet 2 times and regular vet a few more than I probably should...I swear I spend more money on things for this dog then I ever would myself or anyone else for that matter. I also was freaking out about this loud gurgling sound coming from her stomach. It has happened a few times to her, so loud sometimes that you can hear the squishing sound across the room. I have spoken to the vet and basically as long as she is eating and pooping pretty normally, she may just have an off day like we do... The growling thing..I have been having the same problem with Reese. All of the sudden she started growling when she is sleeping and I "disturb" her. What a brat!! it had me freaked out too, i am just hoping it will pass!!! |

| I know exactly what you mean. I too am in the healthcare business. I think sometimes that makes things worse because you know exactly what can go wrong. My Otis's belly is very sensitive. I cannot change foods or give him table food. I hear bubbles and lots of other sounds from his belly even with any new treats I haven't tried before. Also, I have actually cancelled plans before because one of them "wasn't acting right". They are just like kids and you can tell when something is off. Maybe someday I will have a human baby and won't be as obsessed about my dogs, but in the meantime, they get all my focus, whether they like it or not.

| Same HERE ! I worry for Yoshi, so much all the time. I have to say though that I got lucky to have a healthy one; so far. But dont' feel bad I freak out when he sneezes sometimes. Perhaps it has to do with their small size and personality. Generally, yorkies are hardy puppies. |

| I am a total PARANOID mama!! If I see a loose stool or hear a little sneeze, we're off and running to the vet! My hubby thinks I'm nuts sometimes LOL but he's always supportive. How can be not worry about these little ones? We're in charge of them. We're their protectors. It's our responsibility. I never feel bad when I'm in my "paranoid mama mode" as Jim calls it LOL
