| Have you tried searching the forums here? I'm sure you'd find many solutions on the biting habits. For starters, there's the Bitter Apple spray you can purchase at most petstores whcih you can basically spray on most things (furniture, hands, corners, etc). Then, there's deodorant..they don't like the taste. There always the consistant ''NO!" and last but not least, the ignoring technique...

| I purchased 2 bottles of the Bitter Apple & it seems like I've been spraying constantly. I'm always telling him no but it just doesn't work. I'm patient with him but I'm always open to suggestions! Thanks

| At 3 months, they're usually teething and you might just have to continue to be patient as he is very young and that's what he's going to do. I know, it can get fustrating but we're all here knowing what you're going through.

| He is in the biting stage now, just continue saying no and he will get the hang of not biting anymore, he will outgrow that stage.

When do they grow out of it, my Oscar is 4 months old and my hands are dry, cracked and bitten, I can't even keep hand cream on as he licks it all off, little tinker. He also bites my ankles and they are covered in bites and bruises. I still love the little critter though.

| keep him occupied with chew toys! That always helped with Lexi. I would replace my toes with the toy! Usually say NO! first, then give her the toy. After a few good times...she got the hang of it. Get some really good tasty ones, or maybe rub a little peanut butter on one, and that should keep him occupied. I'm lucky that Nico does not bite at all. Just loves his toys.

You got him when he was still fairly young (9 weeks?) and during the time period when he would normally learn socialization skills like biting and submissiveness from his mother and littermates. By playing with the others, a puppy learns about bite inhibition. This is something that you are going to need to teach her. When he bites too hard, let out a loud and high pitched YIP noise like a puppy would and jerk you're hand away like you're hurt. Then give him back your hand. He should lick it to say that he is sorry for hurting you. If he bites too hard again, then remove your hand and walk away. You're going to feel silly but this really works and you should see a big difference in a day or two.

| If your playing with him with your hands (such as rolling him over, scratching around on him, holding a muzzle or ear and so on) he is getting mixed signals when you say no then extend your hand again. Give him a good beef femur bone to chew on. The butcher will slice them to even and inch thick or less. I boil these, cut off any meat and take out the marrow. They DO NOT splinter after being cooked. Puppies have a very short attention span, so your going to have to be persistant and consistant in your training. Don't use words of any kind while getting his attention off of what you don't want and on to something he should have. That comes when he's older. Any reaction you give him when he bites you, whether it's neg. or pos. will only get him that much more excited and permission to keep doing it. |
