| She Played!!! Hi "YT"ers, My name is Amber. I'm new to YT. Our family just got our first yorkie a week ago. We got her through a rescue. She is 3 yrs old and weighs about 8 lbs. Unfortunately, she was a breeder dog that had been neglected. She was a filthy mess when we got her. The rescue group was overcrowded so they were trying to find immediate homes. She had just been spayed, had a horrible eye infection, and hadn't even had a bath. When we first brought her home, she was so scared that she was snapping at everything and everyone--except for me. She and my dog went round and round. She snapped at the kids. And in those first 24 hours, I wondered if I had made a mistake. But in the past week she has come so far. Her eyes are looking better, and we of course gave her a loooooooong bath. She cleaned up so cute! She'll go to the groomer on Tues. She has pretty much stopped the snapping at our other dog and the kids for the most part. It took about 4 days for us to even get a tail waggle from her, but we were so excited when she did. And today I think we made the biggest step. I was in the floor playing with my other dog-- a lhasa poo. She was watching from the sidelines as always. She is always too scared to join in. Bless her heart, she has no idea how to be a pet. But today, she got in on the action. She didn't play long but her tail was wagging and she was pouncing around my lhasa poo--- so cute! We are so lucky to get to have her in our lives and make a difference in hers! Thanks for listening.

| Well you have done a wonderful thing giving her a loving home. I adopted my Peanut at 1 1/2 years old. She came to me completely hairless, skin and bones barely weighing 2 pounds, unsocialized and not in the least bit potty trained as she had only lived outdoors on a farm her whole life. She had just given birth to a stillborn baby, so the breeder no longer wanted her and had her for sale on puppyfind. She was shipped to me with c-section scabbing still in tact, poor baby. She also had a huge scab on her neck from being bred repeatedly. Anyway, I have had Peanut for 2 years now and you would never believe she is the same dog! She is now a whole wopping 3 pounds, spayed, has hair (lol) and is about 75% potty trained, 100% poo poo trained. Peanut is the love of my life!!! I just adore her and can't believe what a precious little angel she is. She is mommy's baby and is in my lap as I type. she is the girl in my avatar picture, picture was just taken two days ago. Anyway, it did take quite some time for Peanut to adapt and welcome all the love we had to give, so as long as you are patient (and you sound wonderful so I am sure you are) I bet she will do just fine. By the way, Peanut also does not know how to play. She will not touch a toy but she will occassionally cary a stick around from the yard. Lol! Toby LOVES toys, so Peanut will watch Toby play fetch and just stand on the sidelines wagging her tail like his cheerleader.

| You all are doing great things for these little fur kids. She will come aroud fully in time, then you wont get them to stop playing when you want them too.

| May the Lord richly bless you for the kindness that dwells in your heart. It is difficult to take in rescue animals because you never know how they will respond. That you have been willing to take that chance speaks highly of you. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | What a nice thread !! That's so good to hear - you too Debbie & PeanutnTobysmom - it must be the best feeling to see them come out of their shell and shame on EVERYONE WHO LETS ANY DOG GET THIS WAY ! They are NOT on this earth to support us - we are here to support and love them and I hate hearing what awful lives some of these dogs have had. Those so called 'breeders' know who they are....and all I can say is I hope it all comes back to BITE THEM Bless the people who step up and save them. |
