| Hi! I'm sunshines mommy. She has just had surgery ..... Hi! I'm Sunshines mommy. She has just had surgery on both knees for LP . We're new & I wanted to introduce us. It has been 7 days since her surgery and I didn't feel like I got very good after care instructions. The vet was kind of vague ( keep her quiet). If anyone has any after care advise I'd appreciate it. Especially pertaining to ambulation (when, how much). Thanks!! |

| I am sorry to hear your baby has had to have surgery on her knees... Unfortunately, I do not have any advice for you but to maybe call the vet and have him go over the after care in more detail, sorry I wish I could be of some help... Welcome to YT -- I am sure you will find some great information here...

| Welcome! That's a very stressful thing to go through with your baby! I don't have any experience either but quite a few people have had their dogs through this procedure, I'm sure by tomorrow you'll have lots more support from members here. How is she doing? Is she pooping/peeing, eating & drinking? Is she taking pain meds? I hope it is a quick and successful recovery for her! ((hugs)) |

| Hi and welcome Sorry, I am another who's not been through this and have no advice. Wish I could help. Call the vet back and ask him to be more specific. I hate when doctors are so vague, ugh! Keep us posted on how Sunshine is doing

| Welcome to YT. I am so sorry your baby had to go through surgery. I do hope it corrects the problem and she will heal nicely. Do a search on the search tab and I am sure you will get information regarding LP. I would call the vet back and ask nicely for more information so you are comfortable taking care of your baby. Sometimes doc's forget they are talking to ordinary people and we have no idea what they are saying. I'm sure that's the case. Hugs to both of you. Carol & Buddy |

| awww....feel better soon Sunshine! If you search my posts, you'll find alot of info on LP. I'm assuming, since both knees were done at once, that your Vet deepened the knee groove and tightened the ligament or did he mention anything about pinning the tibia? That would make a huge difference in the rehab. I would be keeping her crated and/or an expen except for 3 short, 5 minute, leashed walks a day. Her walks should be very slow and encouraging her to bear maximum weight. If she needs assistance, I've found that belly strap they send you home with to hold them up is terribly awkward. I use a thin scarf around their bellies and can control the amount of weight on the back legs. |

| Thanks again Thanks again to everyone who posted. She did have surgery on both knees at the same time and is on pain meds, as well as antibiotic and joint supplement. It is VERY stressfull. She just pooped for the 1st time last night (thank god, after 7 days). Eating, drinking pretty good, and no problem w/ peeing but just looks so pitiful makes me want to cry The doc didn't say anything about pinning the tibia. He deepened the groove, shortened and moved the placement of the ligament on the bone (is that pinning the tibia?). I will search the site. I've already found the advice here helpful. Sunshine says 'thanks' for your prayers and well wishes. I will post pictures soon. |
