| One More Question I brought Betty to the Vet last week for her rabies shot...she was 15 weeks old. The Vet said I should schedule to have her spayed between 4 and 6 months old! I'm scared she's too young yet! He's a good Vet, but I always wonder if they are familiar enough with the tiny breeds. It's not like I live in a thriving metropolis. I get panicky thinking about the anesthesia. What are your opinions concerning a good time to get her spayed? Thanks for your replies. |

| I just had Banjo neutered, and hes just gone 5 months. Done on the advise of my vet. although hes a bigger yorkie, but if you trust your vet go with it. Banjo was back to his normal full of beans self within a couple of hours of getting him home. |

| That may be fine for a bigger breed but is way too young for yorkies IMO. The breeder I got my yorkie from made me promise not to neuter him before he was 6 months or older, no matter what my vet tried to pressure me into. She said it's just way too risky with the anaesthesia. Plus...if you wait until your dog is near to a year old, you can have any remaining baby teeth pulled at the same time. I'd recommend you wait. |

| I think Paris was about 5 months old--she had the laser surgery if that makes a difference. We didn't have any problems at all. She also had a couple of teeth pulled at the same time. I am sure your vet wouldnt suggest anything that would harm your baby or would be to "risky" for the vet himself

| My vet wouldnt spay either of mine before 6 months. one weighed 8 lbs and the other weighed 4 lbs when he did it. He just said would rather them to be developed good before he did it. I do know some people do have it done sooner. So I guess its up to you and how much faith you put in your vet. goodluck on your decision.

| Ginger was spayed at 6 mos., but she's a bigger yorkie. I think I read somewhere that you think yours will be too. My shihtzu was 9 mos. because she was so small...

| Tink isn't tiny - she's close to 6 lbs. But my vet thought that was too young for them to be spayed when they don't have much going for them in the way of size. I imagine Tink may get to be 8 lbs. which will be perfect for her. |

| I understand 100% !! I was a wreck when mine had to have it done!! And I did 2 at once! Anyway, my Vixxen was 5 months old and Lexxi was 6 months old! She is only 4.5 lbs today, full grown, so she was tiny and I was so scared! I know they say to do it before their first heat. I can tell you that I slept on the floor with the babies afterward and Vixxen (who is the smaller of the 2) bounced back to her old self easily and fast! It was much harder on Lexxi, but she has hydrocephalus (which we didn't know at the time) and has always responded to anesthesia in a "worser" way. My vet said to take Truffles at about 6 months too...which I'm not looking forward to but I will............ Don't worry!
