this is just my opinion but if you were in the house for 10 hours out of a day just to sleep all day you would be up and wire when someone comes home and be up all night
heres my suggestions takem or leavem

1.get a dog walker or sitter or daycare its not healthy for her to just sit there all day
2.get another dog atleast she will have company
3.start jogging her in the evening when you get home you may to tired for that but thats one of the things you have to deal with when having a dog

i really dont think its a dominance thing at all i think its a bored thing

I work 8 hours a day and I live in a loud apartment complex and none of my THREE dogs bark when they hear noises outside. Of course exercise is important, too, but according to the Dog Whisperer, barking is a dominance issue.

Gina,

Seriously, she's slept all day and I think she just needs walking every night plus lots of play time. Do you take her on looooooong walks at night? We walk two miles every night that the weather permits plus we have lots of play time. Kacee and her are about the same age. Wots of wuck!

I think getting her a playmate would really help. My 3 seem happier together

ditto to what lady lavendar says, Zoe is home ALL day by herself, but she too desires a lot of attention and affection, we wear her out when we get home, whether it be playing fetch for hours because we are too tired to go for a walk (we sit on the floor, watch tv and throw the ball when she brings it back) or long walks or snuggle in bed together. Weekends are Zoe involved activities, she comes with us everywhere, errands, shopping, etc. we do the whole shhhh thing when she barks similar to Ceasar. I completely understand what you mean by feeling bad about the lonliness and home alone. I always say to her, are we giving you a good life, are we being fair to you by leaving you home all day, so you are NOT the only one that feels this way at all

First, you'll have to break this habit, and the only way to do this is to stop getting up everytime she barks throughout the night. (I know how hard that can be)

Perhaps, eventually, a "sibling" might help keep her entertained (it's done wonders for Ginger), but before you go there, she needs to know when bedtime is.

As soon as I suspected Ginger could hold it through a short night I stopped getting up with her. (this was at about 16 weeks). Of course, for awhile I went to bed late and got up super early, but I wanted her to get the idea. (She slept in her crate until she was about 6 mos old)

This may sound horrible, but when she started to fuss, I moved her to another room and shut my door. I love my girl, but if I responded to her middle of the night tantrums I'd just be reinforcing them.

It won't be easy, but you've got to start there. QUIT feeling guilty, you are obviously a good "mommy".

If you feel she needs more exercise, then you can walk her more, etc. But I'd be surprised if that alone took care of the late night barking.

Good luck!!!!

Lexi,
Try shutting your bedroom door at night. It will lessen the probability of her hearing noises in other parts of the house and keep her from running out of the room to bark at something that she might not have even seen or heard if the door was shut. I shut my door at night bc I don't trust my boys with free run of my house, but I do think it helps to cut them off from the BIG OPEN HOUSE! (your house is big to a small yorkie, no matter if you think its big or not) lots of things to feel threatened by in all that space in the dark when mommy is not paying attention!

Try ear plugs. I have them handy in case I need them.

Boy, this isn't what you need right now...Bless your heart...okay he are my suggestions....(from my dogs) Bear used to get up all the time and bark, so I put a gate up so he couldn/t go in the other rooms and bark...you could close your door, but if your like me I can't stand it so I put up a gate, I really think Lexi needs a baby sister or brother to keep her company...They really do better in pairs... my last suggestion...Take Lexi over moms get b/f go out and have the time of your life, have a couple of drinks, go home and relax and spend a quite night by your self or b/f let mom keep Lexi over night...you need sleep.....

Gina I can certainly understand, and hear, your frustration. If your Mom doesn't work do you think Lexi could stay at her house during the day while you are at work?
I don't know what to say about her barking...Looks like you are getting alot of advise here. Sadie sleeps with us at night and she does tend to walk on us. Under the covers, over the covers this can go on for a while until I tell her to stop and be a good girl...I will take her and lay her next to me and she will stay. Lillie is in a crate, she is still a pup. I plan on keeping her in her crate at night to sleep...She does, every once in a great while, start to bark if she hears the neighbors dog...I just tell her in a very low tone to, STOP LILLIE AND GO TO SLEEP! I may have to say this a couple of times but she will eventually go back to sleep.
Gina...I so hope you find a solution...

Gina.....Rebecca is right it is a dominance thing. I actually have been recording the reruns of dog whisperer while I work in the days and than I watch them on the weekends and work with mine than. My little girl Mia barks at everything too and I have been using some of his bark techniques and seriously it is working. It is hard because you HAVE got to be consistent but if you are and regain YOUR dominance over her she will feel much more calm, protected and be able to relax because she does not have to watch over you or protect you. Seriously....that is the one thing Cesar says over and over again about barking. I too leave mine crated for about 8 hours a day (not all at once) and they are fine when I get home. In fact I only walk mine sometimes once a day and they are not too hyper or stir crazy.

Also what about a second Yorkie for company? I do not think it is a solvent but maybe she would like some company -what do you think about that?

Any way....good luck girl!!
