Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali's allergy tests are in and they show she is not allergic to anything they tested for. The highest score was for corn at 46 and the vet said it had to be at 150 to be considered an allery. He said the only thing it could be something the test idin't test for but I had the full food and environment tst done. So we are going to try a trial of steroids to se if they calm everything down. I am at my wits end with her constant scratching as must she and I am also getting frustrated with Pixie's screaming when confined!!! Sorry I am jusy having a bad day with the dogs! Any advice or encouragment is appreciated!

| Did they test for synthics (sp) or if she wears clothes, maybe your detergent or fabric softner. I know that the scratching can drive us nuts too, as well as them. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Poor baby - that sucks you can't pinpoint the problem....What about her bedding or where she spends the most time ?? Do you have something to cover her beds with to see if it helps ? I bet you already tried everything.... I remember my vet referring me to Lipoderm for my husbands cockers when they itched in certain months - it's full of amenio acids - (can't spell it but you know what I mean right ?) have you tried something like that ?? you can get them in all Petco's and petsmarts the steriods will probably help but the only thing is - what about when she's done with them ? |

| This sounds so frustrating. Jazz developed itchy bumps last fall, and nothing I tried worked. The vet was not helpful. "Yes, he has a rash. It will be fine. Just use a medicated shampoo." For this advice I paid 43.00? Well, the vet was right. It did clear up in a couple of weeks. But his itching wasn't as severe as Cali's sounds, poor darling. I wish I had some words of wisdom. Rashes are maddening.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | The only thing I can possibly think of is I put new carpet in last spring and I went with Nylon instead of polyester because of the stain gurantee. But her itching is much worse the last few months and I have had the carpert for 9 months. Also she sleeps mostly on the bed or her little window seat. Also, she only scratches her face and head not her body. I think I will get her an appointment with a dermatologist specialist next week.

| Hang in there, Patti! We just got a new labrador puppy and he is wearing us out! He also screams in his crate and he wakes up 2-3 times a night to go potty and he requires constant attention when we're home so he doesn't destroy anything with his chewing. Having a new puppy is tough, but it all pays off in the end. Hang in there. Regarding Cali's allergies, I would seriously get her on a new food and see if that will help. Try Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish formula. It's supposed to be the very best food on the market for allergies. You can get it at PetCo. I know how picky Cali is, but maybe she'll like this new food since it's different. She was probably allergic to corn all along and then gradually developed allergies to the other ingredients in the food that contained corn that she has eaten in the past. The best thing you can do is switch to a food with completely new ingredients. The Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish formula doesn't contain ingredients that you see in most dog foods so she probably hasn't developed allergies for these ingredients yet. It would be worth a try. |

| Please Wait on the Steroids Hi! I admit that I do not know your entire itching history, but please wait on the steroids. Using them may bring a whole different set of health related conditions. Please change her food, first. Cook for her. It's easy. Give just lightly cooked meats at first, raw later. Use grated vegetables. No grains at all. Use lentils and beans instead. Some dogs cannot tolerate red fish, but do well on white fish; some cannot tolerate fish oils, but do well on ground whole flaxseed. Get a great daily vitamin, preferably from whole food sources. I use THORNE RESEARCH BASIC CANINE NUTRIENTS. Try this for just one month to see if it makes a difference. Also, the itching could be psychological. She may need to "calm down" with natural or homeopathic remedies. I use chammomile tea and ARK NATURALS HAPPY TRAVELER. You may also buy doggie Tryptophan at ROBBINS NATURAL PET CARE. As a last resort before steroids, please visit a holistic vet. They can give you so much more advice and alternate treatments. I know what you're going through. My "itchball" is better on an organic home-cooked diet. My prayers are with you and Cali.

| Addison's Disease A dog can get Addison's disease by being on steroids and then suddenly taken off. Be careful w/ the steroids! Try another alternative first! |

| I remember once the palm of my left hand broke into a bad case of ezema. The doctor couldn't figure why it was on just my palm.I started wracking my brain about it. Well I had bought these pair of lounging pants that were nylon. When I would sit I noticed I rested my left hand on my leg when I was wearing these pants. When I looked back ,thats when it all started . I got rid of the pants and the rash went away. It could very well be your carpet. I was told the you don't start out being allergic to something, meaning at the onset of exposure. Somethingto think about. Quote:

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | Hi Patti, I am so sorry to hear she is having problems, being allergic to something, is it Pixie that is having the problem? Like others have said, I would definately hold off on the steroids, maybe the Dermotologist will be able to help you without prescribing steroids. I feel so sad for her cause it is most likely driving her bananas too, when I have bouts with the shingles oh my gosh, itch like crazy, it really drives me bananas. Hear you are getting colder weather coming your way this next week, I have family in Missouri and talked with sister this evening she says it is to be down in the single digits all next week or so they are predicting. I guess we have put on hold in getting another baby girl yorkie till about June, what do you think of the name Tanzanita (Tanzie or Zanita for short) I wanted something different so came up with that on my own, it is different don't you think? Jack said he would like to call her Tanzie for short Prayers for your little girl there to get through this real soon. Think of you so often and hope everything else is going well for you there. I have decided to hold off on the steroids as it was my suggestion to the vet not his to try it. I appreciate evryones input. The last thing Cali needs are more health issues.
