| Is 3 1/2 yrs too old to be neutered? My JPop (3 1/2) and Taz (1 1/2) both not fixed, constantly fight. J Pop is definetly the alpha dog and wants everything his way. Poor Taz is scared all the time. I also have TJ (14 wks) who gets along great with both of them. TJ will be neutered at 6 mos. Hubby is not to fond of getting JPop fixed, but I have to do something. I think, tell me if you agree, that JPop should be fixed before Taz since he is dominate. I'm afraid if I fix Taz first it might make it worse. It's like a freaking zoo at my house now, gotta do something soon. Any advise or comments? thanks Linda |

| JPop isnt too old to be neutered and I think it will be the best thing for him. I dont have two males so I am not going to pretend to know what you are going through but i will tell you My Chachi became a much better dog after neutering. He listens to us so much better. He is the alpha but he isnt rough with Jewels our other dog.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | My understanding is that neutering an adult dog won't help with aggression issues. You'd have to deal with those through training. However, it will help your pup live longer. Intact dogs have a lot of health risks, among them prostate issues. There's also the risk of unwanted litters. Even if you can find homes for them, that's that many fewer homes for rescued dogs. I shared your husband's feelings about neutering for a long time. It's a guy thing. But after researching, I really don't think you're doing your dog any favors by not neutering or spaying.

| Definitely not too old. As long as he's in good health I wouldn't worry about it at all. Jpop first would probably be best. Best wishes! ETA: It may or may not help the aggression depending on if the aggression is testosterone related. If the aggression is over toys and resource guarding it won't help, but if it's obviously dominance, it probably will.

| I've had fosters that were anywhere from 5 to 10 years old that we had neutered without any problems. The Vet. will give him a test to see how well he will do when he's put under. |
