| Sleeping habits I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light as to when Bear may decide to sleep more than 2 hours at a time before having to go potty. There are a few nights (few and far between) that he's slept 4 hours before having to go. (there was no change in our routine in day/evening). Buy generally we can expect a wake up cry every 2-hours. He really has to go too, he's not just waking up to play . He's 13 1/2-weeks old. I hope it doesn't sound like I am complaining..we'd get up every 15-min w/him if need be..he's our baby I know every puppy is different..but thought maybe I could get some other people's potty schedule LOL |

| Do you bring up his water at a certain time, or does he have free reign to water? From DAY ONE, I bring up my 11 wks old water at 7, and he goes to bed at 9:30. I make sure he has some water RIGHT BEFORE I bring it up, and only ONE NIGHT was he really wanting water, but that was because I let him go about an hour of chewing on a tendon, and he was THIRSTY!!! Learned my lesson Thats my only suggestion, because I am new |

| Mine is 8 months old and still doesn't sleep through the night. He wakes up 1-2 times usually... sometimes 3. I take up his water 2 hours before bed and he still doesn't sleep through the night. I guess it just depends on the dog.

| Glad to hear I'm not the only one sleep-deprived. Hoku gets up twice every night and has to pee and poop at least one of those times, sometimes both She's only 11 weeks so I'm hoping she outgrows it soon!

| Another thing I thought about is that I take Scruffy out EVERY HALF HOUR from basically 6/6:30 until he goes to bed at 9:30, so he loses his water at 7pm, PLUS he goes potty about 5-7 times since he loses his water........my guy (11 weeks) sleeps from 9:30 until anywhere from 5-7 am (it's usually when dh gets up 6am, but occasionally before that), so that is working for us Good luck, I know I need my sleep, so taking him out every half hour at night is WORTH it to me!! |

| i hate to be the bearer of bad news... but layla was at last 8 months before she slept through.. HOWEVER.. it does get better... from about 6-8 months she would only get up around 3:30 for a quick pee... this past weekend she was sick... and was up every 2 hours to go out... it was SUCH a flashback to when she was a puppy.. so glad you hear you had a good night last night! they will become more and more frequent |

| Some yorkies never sleep through the night, even after they mature. You may be one of the lucky ones whose puppy sleeps all night, and will continue to do so. My two are 2 and 3 yrs old, and Snickers always wakes up at 3:30 AM like clockwork. Then Baxter will wake up. They both pee, then go back to sleep until morning. We haven't had a full night's sleep yet! (And we take up their water at 6PM every night!)

No Longer a Member | I guess all yorkies are just different. We got Chloe at 8 weeks. From the third night forward, she was quiet all night. We used an x-pen with her crate in it with the door opened and papers at one end. She would pee and poop in the night, but never cried or anything. At about 13 weeks old, she could go all night without needing a potty break. That is when we put away the papers and the x-pen. Now she goes to bed around 9-10ish and she gets up for pee and poop when my husband gets up for work at 5-ish, then she goes back to sleep until 7:15, when my son gets up for school. On weekends, she'll sleep all the way until 7:00am...Like clockwork, she yelps to be taken out. |

| Ok, I'm a night-owl and don't turn in until midnight. I haven't had a puppy in 12.5 years so I need a little reality check before my new baby comes next week. I plan to take up his water around 9pm and take him out at midnight when I retire. In between I'll take him when he signals or as needed or every hour. What are my chances of sleeping at least 5 hours before I have to get up. Also, where is the best place to have his crate, in my bedroom or downstairs? I Look forward to your experience and input. Thanks in advance. |

| Hi It is so difficult to know what to do for the best - this is what i did. I got Harvey at 8 weeks and after 4 nights of my daughter sleeping downstairs with him (as we felt so sorry for him, having left his mummy etc). We put him in his crate in the kitchen - door closed and a wee wee pad one half of crate. We take him out last thing at night and in a morning, and for the first few months he had sometimes weed on the pad. Now he very rarely does anything on it, we do take him out every 3-4 hours, throughout the day, and he has free access to water until bed. He never has accidents in the house anymore - he is now nearly 10 months old. Good luck.
