| so, we talked.. I approached it in a very loving way. Over dinner I said "Honey, can I talk to you about something?" he said "of course"... well, I basically said to him that I would like to try and train maggie the way I trained Daisy...without treats being the motivating force. I asked him how he felt about that. He was very encouraging and said "I think you did a great job with daisy, she is amazing, so yeah, I'm ok with that." So I went on to tell him that I appreciate his confidence in me and that I have no problem with occasional treats and doggie surprises, but that I would like to make sure that it is not the tool that we use to potty train and those sorts of things. He was in total agreement and it was actually a very pleasant conversation. So I just wanted to let all of you that responded to my thread about this situation know how it went and that it was a very positive thing. I will let you know how the training goes. but so far, so good. we have not been using treats with her consistently but she is doing very well with her potty training, she knows how to sit and she knows what "here" means (come). all of these things have been taught thus far without treats so I am confident we will be successful in the long run. Thanks again for all the help.

| Wow! That's great. It has been 7 months & Piper still comes for a treat after going on the potty paper. No wonder I call her my little piggy.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | hope the training goes well. Morgan doesn't get treats after she potties outside. i hate when i pet sit for my friends three little dogs. every time we come in from outside all three are bouncing around me begging for a cookie. they stare and bark and annoy the hell out of me until i give them one. morgan thankfully was never exposed to this so she just runs in the house and wants to play. we have a quick chase session around hte house and she's happy

| Totally AWESOME!!!! You should feel so very proud of yourself. Not only did you make a GREAT start towards solving an immediate problem -- you made huge leaps and bounds towards strengthing your relationship with your husband. Thank you so very much for sharing your "meeting of two loving minds". |

thank you. I appreciate the support. I think hubby and I are close enough and trust each other enough to know that if it didn't mean a lot to the other person, we would not bring it up. so i think he knows that it obviously is important to me and he respects that. hey..I have to tell you.,..he was DEAD SET AGAINST getting another dog. He has had a lot of trouble with his min pin so the sheer fact that he got me the yorkie for christmas tells me that he trusts my judgment and knows I will do what I (with my vets advice, of course) feel is right and best. I am a huge dog lover...HUGE...and I especially love the well trained, well behaved ones that anyone can be around and have a pleasant loving feeling when they leave the dogs presence. I think it is so amazing when you take someone who is "not a dog person" and they fall in love with your dog. (this happened with my best friend who was never been around dogs and would normally not even go so far as to pet one but she LOVES daisy to pieces) it really says wonders about the dog and how much it is loved. I think that if you spend any time with my animals, you can see how much they are loved and cared for. My hubby knows this and I believe this is why he is so willing to try this with me. smart guy LOL
