| Please Help! Hey all, this is my first post, but have been reading on the site for months. Thanks for all the great posts. I really need help with my four month old yorkie, Braden. He bites a lot. He thinks he is playing, but he can't interact with humans this way. He is pretty good otherwise. I have had him for a month and been working very hard to get him to stop. I have managed to get him to stop chewing on other things like magazines and electrical cords, just not hands. He will be fine and come up to you, you start petting him, and then he goes for it. He just bites.. it is not a mean ferocious bite, just a bite like, I'm tough, let's play. The vet said this is the time where you need to get him to stop this. She said when he does that, hold his mouth together and say 'No bite.' I have done this and then right after put a flat palm out and said 'kisses.' He sometimes licks once or twice, then bam, right back to the bitting. He has plenty of toys with variety in texture as his teeth could upset him, but why does he insist on knawing on humans? I don't want to ruin our relationship as he bonded to me, but it hurts and it is sooooo annoying that he bites everybody. Please help! Thanks everyone!

| Welcome to YT!! I think they all try this at this age ... I know our Toto did. We simply had something constantly on hand that was hers to chew ... nylabone, teether, etc. .... when she would try this, we simply told her in a normal tone "no bite" and gave her something to chew. She quit doing it and we later found out that she was teething. She learned early on, the magic word "No" .... it works with any bad behavior. Good luck, I know that this is very annoying. Hope you enjoy it here!

| Thanks so much! I will try the toy thing instead of trying to make him kiss/lick my hand. I understand he is a puppy, so I can't be too crazy about this, but I worry that he may always associate that as being good/ok. Thanks for the comment and looking forward to being a part of the community! Best, J and B-rad

I wonder if you could use ambisol (sp) or something on his gums? They do on babies as I recall from my childhood, which is long gone. However maybe someone here knows or ask the Vet. | |
