In the area where I live one of the shelters uses a decompression chamber to kill the animals. :(

I guess it rapidly takes the air from their lungs and they die. Imagine a place that calls themselves a "humane society" doing such a thing. It has been going on for decades and is supported by the county. oh god .... Well, at least the other group does it by needle and only as a last resort. Can't these shelters reach out to rescue groups to take these animals before putting them down. So sad, spay or neuter your pets, please.

Funny I get an email about this post. Miles and I are walking back from Rite Aid and this guy says "hi, little teacup!!". I was silently cracking up. Yes, my sweet little 9 lb. teacup, lol!!! I guess he associates a yorkie, any yorkie as a teacup yorkie. Guess it's better than 'why is he so big / is he pure breed yorkie or how much does he weigh'.

LOL. I never know what to say in those situations. I might try, "No, he's a Teapot." And see what they say!

Ha ha!!! Then we may never get home lol!!! I had ice cream in my bag. People seem to,be pretty fascinated with Yorkies. I am like, I live in the NYC Metro area, I spend most of my time in Manhattan where people can buy an 8K "tea cup" Yorkie with a blink of an eye so why is my doggie so interesting; I am certainly not complaining. I was talking to a couple with a Morkie at the pier and they said Miles was the most beautiful Yorkie they've ever seen, WOW!! We certainly do attract attention as I assume all of the Yorkie Mommies on the the forum do as well.

I try and walk Jaeger as much as possible, but sometimes in places like Home Depot I wish I could put Jaeger in a purse. When I carry him, his torso takes up most of the length of my forearm (its the doxie in him-he's fairly lean for his build, he's just VERY long)

Doggy stroller! Get the one thay advertises for 2 or 3 dogs. Perfect for using the top as a shopping cart too.

Lol, i love my thunder....but thanks for the aceptance. Yessssss we are in. Toto is now. 7.8lbs btw, im thinking he may top out at 8.0 to 8.5. Hes not super chunky ether, must be really dense bones :-)

Please accept me into your ranks. I would like to bring a new bit of business to the table: Teapot Pride.

I submit we need to think of ourselves as fabulous dogs, instead of accepting second hand citizenship due to our size. My person has told me she specifically looked hard to find me, as she wanted a fabulous dog, not a fashion accessory with hair. In any case, I know we are all loved by our people (my person says there is more of me to love, and has said I am very entertaining!)

PS: The manufacturer of my snowsuit has used ME as the model on their web site!

My 16 month old yorkie weighs in over 7lbs. The breeder I got her from tells me she has never had a puppy over 5lbs and that I should put her on a diet! She's not fat she's just tall! And she gets plenty of excercise! So glad we are not alone!!

Ahhhh, so many people say that the breeder they got their puppy from always promises that it's going to be a miniature this or that. And then the dog winds up being larger than they promise. 'Get on a diet' is her defense for your doggie being so called oversized. Too much!!

Yes, teapot pride. We need a parade and a flag lol!! I find that Miles is more durable and versatile at his size. He was never intended to be a fashion accessory. Small enough to get into a doggie purse, large enough to be healthy and strong!!

You would be surprised how many people have the same thing happen to them. While Yorkies are not supposed to be over 7lbs their ancestors were quite a bit larger for many years. In a well bred line of Yorkies they may have occasional puppies that are over sized. However, there are also the racketeers out there that know there is a big market for small dogs and will tell their customers that the puppy is going to be under 7lbs when they know very well it will not. Unless you are buying from a breeder that has some nice line bred dogs that have been consistently producing a particular size pup there is just no way someone can guarantee you a particular sized dog. It takes very careful breeding to maintain a consistent look and size in purebred dogs.

The teapots make wonderful family pets. Too bad not enough people appreciate them for the beauties they are.

Just thought I'd mention...

I took My Female Becca to the Vet yesterday for a checkup, and She weighed in at 8.3 lbs ! What a little Fuzwhopper she's going to be. ;)

I sincerely think that a higher level of exercise (which both of mine get daily) has an impact on how much they grow. Both Her and Sneakers parents are within normal specs and Becca (when born) was not an exceptionally large puppy. It may vary with another animal ?

Nice! And thanks for reporting all official weigh-ins to the Teapot Club. We have standards, you know!

I've often wondered how exercise affects weight in dogs. Jillie, at 5 1/2 pounds, weighs more than her Mom or her dad, and I'm relatively certain she gets a lot more exercise than they did. I don't know about Eddie's parents, but he's been no lighter than 9 1/2 pounds since he was a year old. He's just under 10 now.

I'm sure that lots of exercise will help develop more muscle mass in any dog. It certainly helps to keep to keep them from getting overweight.

During the coldest part of our last winter Gracie did not get to go out for her walks everyday and she ended up being a bit of a porker by spring time. We started back to our regular routine of at least two walks a and sometimes 3. The extra weight fat dropped off quickly. She just loves her outdoor time.

Molly (or moo moo as she's more affectionately known) is just 8 1/2 months and is already weighing in at 12 1/2 pounds!! We love her size and floppy ears. We got her from a rescue home at 4 months so really don't know anything about her background but she has proved to be the sweetest little dog you could ever meet.

I LOVE HER!!! Miles is a year old now and I know he's about 9-10 lbs. could be 12 lbs. for all I know. He has not been weighed by the vet in a while. He feels heavier. But, you know, he feels good in my arms, like a human infant would. I don't plan to have any children so this is as good as it gets. He's strong enough not to be so fragile but small enough that I can still take him places and carry him in his doggie purse or carrier.
