Overpaid for yorkie 2 Attachment(s) Hello all, I am feeling guilty lately considering how much we paid for our yorkie. She was an excellent breeder, and the pups grew up in her living room in a playpen, and I got to see both parents. My yorkie has a babydoll face and will by small (we didn't care about that). We paid 1500.00. It is hard for me to sit with that knowledge, worrying that we got ripped off. I could have gotten an 800 dollar yorkie from a backyard breeder and lucked out on the temperament, people seem to do so all the time. Ugh. And then the spay, another 200 dollars. THE GUILT IS SETTING IN. |
Sounds like you picked a great breeder and that means alot when it comes to their health. Don't worry about what you paid, she's pricless, right?? LOVE that bath pic. Her ears are sooo cute!! |
Bath :D Ha, she hated the bath. And the breeder bathed her several times. She looks like a wet rat, or something. She is all EARS! Also, she is 10 weeks old, and we have rarely heard her bark. Tonight she did during playtime, as she was a complete crazy hyped wildwoman. I said, "no bark." Since she barks so little, is that likely to hold into adulthood? Or am I jumping the gun? When we went to see the pups at the breeder's house, none of her adults barked at us. She said that her dogs were not "yappers." If she was a huge barker, would it have started by now? Thanks again everyone! :animal-sm |
I think she is darling and my feelings are what is done is done, why waste time worrying or stressing over something you cannot know change? |
It doesn't sound like she will be a yapper. Lily also rarely barks. About the only time she does is when where in bed and she hears something. When nothing shows up to eat us, she quiets back down. |
She is beautiful. I got taken when I bought my first yorkie. Live and learn, right? Even now I would rather pay a good breeder more for all the love and work they put in. Paying $1500 for an adorable dog that isn't yappy sounds like a bargain to me. ;) |
Your yorkiebaby is adorable! I am sure she is worth every penny ;) |

I couldn't agree more. Breeders don't make money on puppies they sell cheaply. They really only make money on the pups that bring more money. Which is not to say that a $500 yorkie is any less "valuable" than a $3000 one. In my neck of the woods (southern California) $1500 for the cute little girl you got would be a terrific bargain!! It you figure that your baby should live 15 years, that's only $100 per year or less than 30 cents day. That is cheap for what you will get back from her!! Yorkies range in price from $500 to $10,000 and the average I would say for a high quality pet or a puppy with show potential is closer to $3000 in my experience. The super tiny females are in great demand right now and rarely go for less than $5000. Your little girl is "Priceless" no matter how you look at it and worht every penny! Enjoy! |
Ditto!! she's just beautiful! :D and well worth it!! Besides it's only money  after awhile you won't even think about how much you spent on her, that feeling will go away and you will see! I think it's guilt about the amount, I went through the same feeling so I think it is normal. and from where she came from sounds like she had a very good home and well taken care of, I have never breed, but I have heard it can be quite expensive to give quality care to the breeding and care of mom & babies. she has such a little baby face... :D |
Awww, thanks guys! I confess, I love to hear people gushing...I feel like a proud new mama. Oh, and we are working on barettes in the hair, she hates them, and tries to get them out! |
She is a doll...I feel you usually get what you pay for in most cases. 1500.00 is cheap from a good breeder. Angie |
Wow, she is gorgeous and yup, she sure is "all ears"!! She is SOOO cute and I am sure she will be worth every single dollar. You think $200 for spaying is bad.. wait until you start buying bunches and bunches of clothes for her! lol, another spoiled Yorkie on YT! |
What a cutie!!! You got a good deal, and she is wonderful. $1500 is the standard price around here too. As far as the not barking...Oscar is 6mo. and he also rarely barks. Good luck with her :) |
1 Attachment(s) If she came from a good breeder who takes good care of her mom and dad and took good care of her and her litter mates, you got a good deal. Up here that would be a little pricey, but in a lot of other places it isn't. Usually it is the petstore that sells them that high arought here. She does have some ears on her though. You ought to teach her how to fly, lol. She is cute though. (BTW, I can laugh at her ears because I have one with the same ears, see attached.) Love them ears :) |
I hope her ears aren't freaky big, she looked goofy I am hoping because she was wet! I am from Minnesota, and the papers (which is a bad source for breeders, and I did not use it) usually have yorkies from about $600-1200 range. My biggest pet peeve with dogs is whining. She sometimes whines when she is in her baby playpen, and we will say, "shhh" and she will *usually* quiet down. She is ten weeks old, I wonder at what age we should remove her playpen from the bedroom to see if she can sleep alone. I WANT TO DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO AVOID SEPARATION ANXIETY. That sounds like a nightmare once it starts. |
