I have to go to training for 3 weeks and have a 3 1/2 month old puppy Hey all, I am new to YorkiTalk and am a new owner of a great Yorkie puppy. She's 3 1/2 months old right now and in the middle of February I have to go to Indianapolis for training for my new job. My challenge is this, while Maggie is doing well with potty training, she can not hold it all day while I'll be in class. I will take her crate, but she can't stay in that all day long...so, I'm trying to figure out what to do. I think I'll be staying in a hotel and hope that I can find a credible employee that will walk her in the middle of the day to relieve herself. Otherwise, the company puts us up in apartments and then I wouldn't have anyone to help. I'm perplexed. Any ideas and help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you can't find anyone to walk her, gate her in the bathroom with wee pads and her bed, water, dry food, and safe toys. Inform the management that there is a dog in the room and no one can go in. They can clean the room when you return. She is young and you can pick up your housebreaking schedule after you finish training.

I wouldn't trust an employee to walk her, BUT that's just IMO I would rather get an x-pen and line the whole floor with wee wee pads and put all her stuff in with her. Or put her in the bathroom. I don't trust anyone - too much dog stealing lately!

| This is just an idea, but do you have any family or friends that could housesit with her at your home while you are away? When I go away, (I live alone) I have a family member that I trust stay at my house with my doggies.

Are you able to stay in any hotel you want ? i would check out the pet friendly hotels in Indianapolis. The change of enviroment and surroundings is going to be stressful enough for your puppy. I would forget the potty training while you are in training. She is young enough to learn it later. For 1 thing put a do not disturb sign on your door and tell management you do not want Maid Service unless you are in the room. During training keep her in the bathroom with her bed, a few toys food and water and a pee pad. Keep the TV on as well. You will have plenty of time to work with her after you return home. JMO

Thanks so much for your recommendations. It's funny, when you're not used to traveling with a dog, you don't think of these things. The bathroom's a great idea. Right now, she sleeps overnight in the laundry room with a gate up, her bed, blanket, toys and pee pad and does famously well. So, the bathroom idea sounds great. The 'Do Not Disturb' sign is a good idea...they can clean the room in the evening when I take her out for a walk. Awesome! Y'all are great! Thanks a million. Problem solved!!!
