				   | Hi I can't believe it my dog just killed a rodent... should i get my dog scene by a vet? I wonder if this would give my dog rabies... but if we've given our pet the proper shots that should not matter, right? |

				   | My coworkers dog caught a mouse and walked right in front of us with it dangling out her mouth. We were like but she caught it, but we suggested she go to the vet. You know with the blood inside the rodent, it could be contaminated. You want to be safe that's all.

				   | My dog caught a rodent last summer. My next door neighbor who is a vet tech mixed up hydrogen peroxide and water and with a syringe put it down my dogs throat. This caused vomiting within minutes. We also did this when my dog ate a bird. These birds and rodents carry disease. She said the dog will eventually throw it up in your house anyway, so better to have them regurgitate it right away. Usually the dog throws up about three or four times after this, so keep an eye on him. You might want to check with your vet the proper ratio of the solution. I think it was half peroxide half water.

				   | That is so disgusting! My Chewy did the same thing! OHMYGOSH! I was mortified. She killed it but I got to here before she started eating it. It is their natural instinct, after all, but comon'! lol I called mine "mouse breath" for a while, but that reminded me of the whole incident, so I quickly stopped that! {smile} Well, good luck. Hopefully the mouse didn't have any disease or anything. As a reminder to all, don't poison your rodents, because our babies could eat one of them and really be in trouble! Ro |

| My furkids Donating Member | I knew that these little ones were bred for ratting and like a poster said..that instinct is still there but, I didn't think they would EAT them!!! YUCK! I would probably call the vet too...just to see what he thinks.

				   | I think it would be a good idea to check with your vet also. Better to be on the safe side! I bet you won't be letting your dog give you any kisses for a while!

				   | That is my worse nightmare!!!! (well one of them) I would probably throw up right along with the dog. We saw a mouse one day in the backyard. Punkin was on a leash so I was able to hold her back, but boy did she want at it. For days and days she prowled looking for that thing - thankfully she hasn't found it.

				   | OMG, yuck. That would make me sick to my stomach since I hate rodents. I would agree to take your dog to the vet or at the least, call them and see what they recommend. |

				   | I like the "call the vet" advice. It is always better to be safe. On the other hand, remember that Yorkies are terriers and were bred to hunt rodents. I do hope that everyone has thanked their Yorkies for the good hunting. The only house cat we had was a fierce hunter. I had to "thank" her regularly for bring "fresh" meat to me. Several times the "fresh meat" was still alive and was doctored and released |

Don't know if he should be seen by a vet...I'm sure someone on here will be able to tell you, but yorkies were bred to be working dogs and ratters at that, so it's in his blood! It's good to know that despite their progression to laps of luxury, that terrier, ratter instinct is still alive! | |
