| Grooming Tip Some of you may have already figured this one out, but I'm still a new mommy. Maggie is 11 weeks old now and her hair color has really changed in the last 3 weeks. She is getting more silver around her head. Maybe she is trying to look like her mommy. Anyway, the grooming tip is that I keep reading about giving them a hygiene clip. Well, you know back there isn't very big. Had to think how to do this. I was at Walmart and saw on the shaver aisle these tiny battery operated shavers for bikini areas. Well, never wore one of those bikinis, and at my age never will--but the clipper head was sure small enough--so I bought it. It's the Conair (light lilac colored) bikini clipper and it works great. Put one of the attachment heads on it and combed right thru the private area. Works great. |

| That's a great tip--thanks! I use regular pet clippers and am always worried I'm going to have an oops with them on that area of my yorkie.... |

Redvett, That is my next question. Trimming around the eyes. Is it the part that sticks out close to the tear duct? Her nose hair is beginning to lay down, but that one small place near the tear duct is the only place that sticks out. Maybe you can tell what I'm talking about from her picture. Also one more question. How do you get them to be so still while you are clipping around the face. Is it just because she is a baby? Last night I gave her a brush to check out while I was busy with the other brush. To get to those really tight places with a brush, I usually have to wait until she is limp from wanting to go nite, nite.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's EXACTLY where I'm talking about - the hair right at the corner of their eyes next the tear duck.....both my girls have hair that just sticks right into their eyes and I use that little trimmer you have with the 1/4" Wahl trimmer to get that hair. It's amazing.. when the hair is gone you see those pretty eyes so clearly ! |

| Thank you so much redvett. Will for sure go after that wild hair when she falls asleep. When she falls asleep, it's like a wet dishrag. Almost impossible to wake her up. I guess it's because we don't tip toe around while she is sleeping. She is use to so many noises that she just tunes us out. Maybe that's why she doesn't respond to NO NO anymore. |

Our puppies are the same age. When is your puppies birthday? Coppers is Feb. 26th. Copper is always tearing, because of the hair in his eyes. I have to clean his eyes every day. I wait until he is asleep to groom as well. He is so squirmy otherwise. However, he has recently started waking up when I start to comb him. Today I went out and got a boars head bristle brush...soft...he tolerates that. Maybe it will get him used to being brushed and then I can use other tools.

That is so neat! Happy birthday to Maggie as well! I had to take Copper to the vet on Friday. He was loosing hair behind his ears and on the front of his head. Turned out he has mites! We are treating him with medication. I have seen on YT. that sometimes they have a reaction to the rabies shot. I am going to really watch him close to see if it gets worse. He is a chocolate yorkie. There were 2 chocolates and to black and tan in the litter. My son has a 9 month old black and tan yorkie from the same breeder. He also has a little female from a different breeder who reminds me a little of your Maggie. I think that she will be very blonde when she gets older...her name is Pshche...His male is Sampson. My daughter also has a yorkie. Snickers! We are a yorkie family now. I have had 2 Maltese. Both lived to an old age. Spook had to be put down at 15 years. and we just had to put Misty down at 16 years. It is so sad when you have to say goodbye.

| Ann, I bet your family reunion is going to be fun with all the babies. I thought Maggie was losing her hair this past week. When I got her to be still, it was silvery hair next to the roots with black tips. Guess there goes the baby hair. Tried to clip the hair next to her tear ducts tonight, but she wasn't in a coma yet. She was on guard for the next hour, after I did one side. I finally got tired of waiting for her to fall asleep again. Will attempt the other side tomorrow night. Knowing Cooper has the same birthday is going to be neat. I added you to my friends list, so we could keep up with things. Maggie is my first Yorkie, so I am still learning all the ways they can break you down. I know what you mean about losing a loved one. In my curio cabinet I have two of my fur children. Each of my babies were cremated. One is Buzzer (15 yrs) and the other is Moken (14 yrs.) I placed their collars and picture on top of their urns. Breaks my heart somedays just to look at them. Our home was too quiet after Moken died. He died March 11,2005. I told my husband we must get it together and put life back into this house. We brought Maggie home on April 21,2005. Due to our age, she will probably be our last baby. We have two heelers (Australian Cattle Dogs). They are best children in the county, but not very cuddly. My female heeler has taken the responsibility of babysitting Maggie. That has really shocked us. Pepper is jealous of everything. She doesn't even like the hummingbirds to come around. Now here she is being the best babysitter ever. Pepper is 6 yrs. old and never even had a litter. Oh well, wonders never cease. Take Care. |

My cousin has 2 yorkies...he said to train the hair down and not to cut it, because once you do, you have to continue to do it. I will see what happens. I will have to talk to my kids and see what they do. Do you have pictures of Maggie in the photo gallery? Copper's pictures are there.

| A cute and informative post. Thanks. By the way, don't feel bad, Sadie and I won't be wearing bikinis either, although my little gal just goes with the flow. I can do anything to her, and she just sits there. A real doll! Sadie, that is, not me. LOL Kate Quote:

| My groomer and I decided to let the hair around Sadie's eyes grow. She said it will be hairy for about three months, but once it grows out, it will be weighted down due to the thickness of the hair, and less to worry about . Does anyone else do this, or do you all trim under the eyes? Kate Quote:

I will be working on some pictures for her gallery today. I had one, but didn't like where I put it, and didn't know how to move it. So, I just deleted it. Now I will start over. Thanks for asking. Oh, I think I will see what happens to that eye hair too. If it wants to stick her in the eye then I will sneak up on her in the middle of the night and clip it. Right now she thinks that the clipper is something that is going to cut her eyes out. Just because I told her "Don't Look At Me That Way".
