| I think he hates me =S Hello all, First of all im a proud new owner of Hustler, my yorkie pup. He's 21wks old now and has been at home for a week. The first few days he was perfect.. very curious, yet calm, attentive, and playful. It appears that now that he's much more used to the house and all family members he seems to listen to everyone else but me, as I am his "primary" owner! The problem in particular is biting. Maybe I just can't handle the 'pain' of the pressure of the bite, but it seems that no one else gets bitten as (what I think) severely as I. I believe that most of the time it's just teething so soon after I can get my hand away from Hustler's mouth, I replace it with one of his toys/bones and he's fine. Unfortunately other times it seems that he's really after my hand-- sometimes he literally lunges to my hand! I've tried the basic 'no' command, tried to divert his attention to something else to bite on, and even yelped like how I would imangine another dog would after receiving a bite, but it only works for.. a couple of seconds at best! I love my puppy so much, but I'm beggining to become a little fearful of him while everyone else gets to enjoy his company I'm a newbie at this whole dog owner thing, so I'm somewhat afraid that I've either been too harsh with him, not strigent enough, or not enough attention Please, please, please help. I don't want this to get out of control. Thanks. |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | welcome to YT! Congrats on your new pup! and a pup he is! sounds like he is teething, some good chews are bully sticks and texas toothpicks, they can be bought at a local pet store, please stay away from rawhide and greenies, they are bad news. some ideas for you on training is a water squirt bottle, when he is being bad, squirt him with the water and say "NO" also take a can with a lid and put some coins in it and when he is being bad shake the can and this will get his attention and say "NO" Hope this helps and good luck! we would love to see some pictures of your new little guy! |

| WELCOME to YorkieTalk JanPan I love the name Hustler. I have a different perceptive about pups than many people here. It sounds to me like Hustler loves you MOST! Yorkie pups play rough.... VERY rough.... at least mine do - and I love every minute. In time he will settle down but for now he is going to play. If the biting is really a problem here are a couple of things you might try. 1) when he bites too hard, quit playing and ignore him completely and entirely for about 5 minutes -- that's about as long as he will be able to associate biting too hard and not getting your attention. You could also put him in "time-out" for 5 minutes. 2) you might also have a spray bottle handy and give him a good squirt with plain water when he bites too hard -- combine this with a firm "NO" It sounds to me like you are a terrific Yorkie Mom -- good luck |
