CONCERNS!! Pit Bull & Yorkies

I would never own a pitbull. I think it is especially unwise of people to own a pitbull and children or other small animals. There have been to many pitbull attack incidents

I have several friends with pits. All of their dogs are very sweet and get along with other dogs. My one friends pit is scared of birds. He will tuck his tail and run while my friend's other dog a poodle will bark her head off. Any dog can be mean if that is the way it is bred and raised. Proper training is essential for a happy healthy dog and family.

I personally do not believe that any dog should live outdoors but to each their own.

I am no expert! I can't stress enough to KNOW what the lines are that the pup comes from!! You want to be sure they were bred for temperment and nowhere in there for fighting/aggressiveness and to know how many generations you are looking at the, the more the better. Anyone can get a pup and then another and then because they have good temperments breed them without knowing if grandma and grandpa were bred to fight. Then training, training, training!! I also think that like an above poster, you have to be a strong pack leader so they know who is boss and supervision is very important! You can always get an ill tempered dog out of long line of well tempered ones too so supervision and early training will be very important. I would also like to add if you can find a breeder who does early neurological stimulation that would be a huge plus!!!

The only thing I want to say on the subject of Pit Bull dogs, is where I live, your home owners insurance goes up if you own a Pit Bull dog. I guess because they are considered by the insurance companies in my area ,as potentially dangerous dogs. I know they usually have at least a couple of Pit Bull dogs at our local Humane League at any given time there.

1. I hate people do pitball bushing.
2. There are some irresponsible owners who cannot train and give right affections to their dogs!
3. Pitball's aggressive behaviors are not their fault but irresponsible owners!

I own an Am. Staff. and TWO yorkies. They are the best friends possible . they share the same bed and bowl ... I have taken my Staff. to obedience classes since she was a pup. I have no fears about the breed as I have had a pi in my life from a very young age. My Staff. is 5 years old and my yorkies are 1 years and 8 months . They run after each other and it is so funny to see my yorkies stand on my staffs' back ... They are a great match . Plus a great convo starter at Petsmart.... I often get the phrase " You could'nt decide on a size hmm"

i have wanted a blu pit for many years also and eventually i will get one! i wouldn't leave them alone together just like kids safety 1st i'm sure they will be fine espically if the yorkies are older and pit joins as a pup but when pit gets bigger they don't realize they are really bigger and could squish a smaller yorkie and so on the dogs depend on the owners and trainers not what kind of dogs they are i really believe that!
i have 2 yorkies and a 100+lb rottie she tolerates the female yorkie fine but doesn't like my male i have no idea why i think she dislikes anything thats black and tan coloured thing is she's the same colour!! how odd!

The dogs will be fine if you choose to get a pitbull. Pitbulls tend to have problems with dogs their size and bigger. My dad has four of them and he has his tiny that I got him for Father's Day four years ago. I never fear any breed of dog because even the supposedly sweet ones can bite. It's all about how your raise that dog.

As for the pit, pit bulls are one of the sweetest dogs there is. People can make any dog mean and aggressive, it is not the breed, rather the owners and how they raise and train it.
You do need to be careful as you do with any big dog. I would suggest getting a puppy so that it can be raised around the yorkies and learn to be gentle with them from an early age. They have to be taught to play gently with them and you have to watch or teach the bigger dog to watch where it lays down, sits or even walks because it doesn't take much to hurt a yorkie by accidentally sitting on one or stepping on them. And I would never leave the bigger dog alone with the yorkie, like I said accidents can happen and since yorkies are so small you have to be extra careful.

Many friends of mine have pit bulls and they are great... none accidents ever happended w/ their dogs... but I can't say the same about the ones w/ small dogs...

Pitt bulls were bred for the wrong reason (fighting) , so they are strong and agile, but it doesn't mean they are vicious beasts nor a wild animal (I know that because I worked in a zoo)... JMO...

And to people that think that all dogs are meant to be in the home well is my look for that you do it your way I do it mine (even though I don't have a dog that is outside nor did I ever have one) but if my husband wants to get a pit and then he would much rather it outside so be it and FOR THE RECORD!!! Dog CAN have a HAPPY and WONDERFUL life in a BACKYARD!! GEEZZZZZ JMO!

Any animal can attack from the smallest to largest. Pitbulls are not the only ones that attack and honestly the reason they get such a bum rap (more than the other dogs that attack) is because of the damage that they can unknowingly inflict. I have had pitbulls all my life. Currently we are overrun with yorkies but that is because I wanted to go smaller. My dad owns four pitbulls one is 95 lbs, one is 120 lbs and the new puppy who is six months old currently weighs about 55 lbs and then there is oreo that is only a mere 7 lbs. None of them have caused any harm matter of fact Oreo is the aggressive one there and runs the roost and he came after the big guys. They will only become aggressive if you are getting out of hand with my parents. They are very protective but will not hurt anyone unless they are doing harm to the family. My children have grown up with my dad's dogs and as babies they bit, pulled and rode the dogs and they never batted an eyelash at the kids.

I honestly dont' think that anyone should condemn the breed. To know them is to love them just like any other dog. It all comes down to the temperment of the animal.

I know it may not be popular opinion but its mine and My Husbands. There are pitbull owners where I live and their dogs are all vicious. Plus everytime there is an attack the owner always says they had not seen that type of behavior in the dog before. I would like to see them outlawed
