| Just a warning about parvo I can't believe that this happened to our precious baby! This week our 13 week old Yorkie, Rocky, was diagnosed with parvo! I was a complete wreck when our vet told us! But, thanks to early recognition, he FULLY recovered! He had to stay in the vet hospital for the first day and we brought him home for the night. Took him back at 8 the next morning and he was released at 3:30 that afternoon. We have him on a strict diet, but since he has been home, he is completely back to normal and ALL of the symptoms are gone!! Please take your pet to the vet immediately if you see the warning signs of parvo. I thought he was safe since he is current on vaccinations, but the vet told us that the shots are really just boosters and only last 3-4 weeks. Just wanted to share the importance of an early diagnosis to treat this horrible disease! We are so blessed that Rocky recovered so quickly! |

| I just wanted to post symptoms of parvo: The symptoms of Parvo include... a sudden onset of vomiting, bloody diarrhea, dehydration, lethargy, high temperature and sometimes sudden death. Symptoms are similar in adults, although they can be less acute. Because Parvo attacks swiftly, time is of the essence. If you feel your dog has been exposed to Parvo, or it is showing symptoms, contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital immediately ------ Symptoms of the virus Initial visible parvo symptoms are severe depression and a loss of appetite. The pup will appear to be in a lot of pain, with a tucked up abdomen. A high fever quickly develops accompanied by severe diarrhea, and acute dehydration. The diarrhea will usually be bloody within 24 hours. Puppies infected with parvo virus usually die within 48 hours, if left untreated |

| Thanks, everyone! Thanks for the kind words! We are just thrilled that our Rocky is well!!! And, believe it or not, he actually is even better than before! More energy and lots more biting (we are still working on the biting!)! I have to figure out how to use this sight a little better and I will post pics! Thanks, again! Shelley and Rocky Balboa |

How was he dianosed? What was the medications your vet gave? I am really concerned! I have 7 dogs and puppies and I would nearly die if I introduced parvo into their environment. How many puppy shots has your baby had? Thanx for any info y'all can give would be most appreciated.. | |

| My vet explained to me that dogs, like children, are given a series of booster shots that are temporary. Because vaccines are taken from an actual virus, they can only be introduced slowly in a small animal, or an infant. Once the puppy has built an immunity, through the boosters, the final dose is given to make them completely immune. I have 2 different vets, one for my beagles and one for my Yorkie (she specializes in Yorkies) and they both agreed that the first 3 shots that puppies are given are only "boosters". This shows the importance of following through with full vaccinations. I could be totally wrong, but I hope this helps. Shelley and Rocky Balboa |

| How devastating! Was the Collie up to date with his shots? Maybe I am taking things for granted thinking Sadie is fine with all shots. Kate Quote:
