| Questions about an un-neutered Yorkie Hello, I am the proud owner of JoJo who is almost 6 months old and will be neutered this week. I have been looking for a playmate for him and was thinking of an older puppy or younger Yorkie. While he was being groomed this morning by my breeder, I asked her if she had any available and she is considering selling me a male, almost 2 years old who is not showing any interest in breeding. She said he would have to wear a belly band and is not the neatest dog but has a great personality. I met the little guy and he is a sweetie! He would be the same price as my puppy was so I would be paying top dollar and want to make sure I can manage the situation. Would neutering change his urinating everywhere or has too much time past? I don't want to end up with a dog who can never be housebroken. I would have the dog neutered shortly after I got him. JoJo is trained on an indoor potty system (wizdog) and I would want to do the same for this little guy. The two dogs got along great! Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

| Why would she still charge you the same price for a 2 year old dog as she would for a puppy? Seems to me the price should go down... especially since you're now going to have to deal with his marking etc. Not to mention, just because she didn't have any success with breeding him, doesn't mean he's not going to be a humping machine... I dont think it's too late to try to train him - might be more difficult than with a puppy since you're not working with a clean slate... but I'm sure it can be done. Ultimately it's up to you - but if it were me, I'd be looking for at least a small price reduction.

| In my personal experience it was much harder to train an older dog a different potty training method then starting from scratch with a puppy.

| unneutered male I housetrained my male yorkie as an adult (rescue), the belly bands worked great and it took about 2 weeks with constant supervision and crating him when I couldn't watch him. I've had him for years now and he does great. I also have a female yorkie. He will mark at the vet hospital and in a stranger's house that had a male dog. Supervision is a must. Roxanne |

| Thank you to all who responded. I was also surprised the price was the same as her puppies but I am not good at negotiating! Even if she took off a few hundred it's still an expensive dog and I am not confident that I can successfully train him. JoJo is still not completely trained which is why I was thinking of an older puppy or younger dog. I will keep looking!
