| ![]() I had never seen a Yorkie in person before I started my search for one. My beloved died had passed away at 15. I missed her very much. We grew up together -- almost like sisters. I never like little "ankle-biters" as I called them. I always loved big dogs like St. Bernards, Pit Bulls, Goldens, Labs and Rottweilers. I would spend my lunch hour walking a very special Rottie at the Animal Welfare shelter near my work where my family had gotten my Lab. I really wanted to get her, I named her Ffiona (yes, w/ two F's). I did a reality check and realized that since I was only 20 and didn't know where I was going to be living in the next few years, I should probably not get a big dog. I would have a hard time keeping her in an apartment. Anyway, I started thinking about different breeds of smaller dogs that I may mesh well with and that would be easy to travel with/move with. I was leaning toward a Westie or a Cavalier. I thought I would give a Yorkie a shot since they are adorable and I got referred to a "good" breeder. I wont go into my visit with that breeder, but after seeing her pups, I knew I was gonna get a Yorkie. So one Saturday afternoon, my boyfriend and I went to a different breeder who was located on the NW side of Chicago. He breeds Cavaliers and Yorkies. His brother breeds Papillions and I asked if his brother woudl bring them over too so I could see all of them. There was only one Yorkie puppy left. He was the largest in his litter and had dry skin. I picked him up out of his playpen and held him. He licked me and that was it. I knew I wanted him. The Cavs and Papps were cute, but they didnt have as much personality. My boyfriend and I went outside to talk about it. We were going on vacation that week to Phoenix and I didn't want to get the dog and leave him with a dog sitter right away. I grappled for a long time, but I decided not to get him. I went in and thanked the breeder for his time and he told me that he was expecing another litter in April with one of his other dams. I knew I made a mistake as soon as we got in my car to leave. My boyfriend was really upset and I was crying. I waited a few days and called the breeder back. He told me that the puppy was still there and he would keep the dog for me while I was on vacation. I dropped off a deposit and picked Stewie up the Monday we got back. It's been a wild ride ever since!

| ![]() I've always wanted my own puppy.. I've had a few dogs in the past, that were in the family and what not, but that i've never took care of.. and of course my parents didnt ever think i was old enough to take care of myself let alone take care of a cute puppy. i wanted a yorkie ever since i was 14.. every year i'd ask my parents if i could get one, but they could never afford it.. so of course i never ended up getting one. Until i was in nursing school i really really wanted a small puppy.. (school gets so stressful and depressing lol).. but of course i didnt have a job yet so they said no.. until recently i graduated and passed my nursing boards and they finally let me get a doggie (Yes i still live with my parents ![]() so i looked on local adds in the paper and yes i looked online, and i found an add for a Yorkie/Pomeranian .. i was like oh yay! i called and there were 5 left.. and when i got there (an hour later) there were only 2 left and a lady was already picking between the two.. I didn't get a chance to pick.. because right when i walked in the door of the house, Oreo came running at me and jumped on my lap when i bent down.. and looked at me as if he knew me forever.. and that was how Oreo picked me! And Ginger's a different story.. i rescued her from a petstore.. i had too! she was the only one in their that was in bad shape.. i love her though and don't regret getting her.. i got her after my Pomeranian Roxie because she couldnt get along with Oreo & My uncle's kids wanted her so bad, and they got along very well.. so i let Roxie go to my uncle and their family, which wasn't such a bad idea all along.. Oreo was still lonely and thats how i found Ginger.. And now.. I'm wanting another puppy! AHH omg will it ever stop? ![]() |

| ![]() My husband became very sick with heart failure about a year and a half ago and had to suddenly and unexpectedly take medical retirement. At that time he had a Jack Russell terrier. However, due to my husband's heart condition, he could not walk "Jack" enough - Jack Russells need to be walked at least an hour per day plus LOTS AND LOTS of other play. Also, as my husband recovered enough to get out and about some, Jack was just horrible when he was left alone in the house, even for a little bit - he woudl tear up everything he could get ahold of. Anyway, Jack just became too much for us to handle so we found a wonderful new home for him. After only a couple of months, my husband and I went to the town where we had gotten Jack and my big brave husband broke down in big crocodile tears and finally admitted how much he missed Jack. I knew right then and there we would have to replace Jack with a dog more appropriate for my husband's activity and energy level. His sister has a Yorkie and so after lots of research, we decided that would be the dog for him. We've had Rowdy for a month now, and I just can't tell you the change in my husband. He is happy everyday. He smiles, laughs and just absolutely dotes on this dog. Rowdy is going to be one spoiled dog, that is for sure. We plan for Rowdy to go everywhere (that dogs are allowed) with my husband. We already take him with us everywhere that we can and sometimes we make up places to go, just to take him out and about to get him absolutely acclimated to travel. I firmly believe that Rowdy is responsible for preventing a very serious depression in my husband. We are looking forward to many many years of Yorkie happiness. |

YT Addict | ![]() I grew up with Golden Retrievers and when we were at dog shows I would always look at all the other breeds. One time a Yorkie caught my eye. I told my mom that I wanted one. She kinda shuffled me off. When I turned nineteen I really wanted a dog. In a way I was kinda wanting a baby or something to take care of. So I started investigating Yorkies. After doing a lot of research on the breed I decided I must have a baby Yorkie. I knew I wanted a boy. I found a breeder in Green Bay that had 4 boys. She told me I could have the pick of the litter. I used my birthday money to pay for my little man. I went and picked him out. He was the smallest, shyest puppy. All his brothers were beating up on him and he kept coming to me to be rescued. So I took him home. He was immediately mine. He followed me everywhere. He insisted on sleeping with me and well the rest is history. I will be 24 and I tell people that I have little baby and he is a Yorkie. My boyfriend calls to talk to him daily. He is spoiled like a child by my entire family. He also has grandparents, my parents. Alex is my little pumpkin ![]()
