| ![]() We got our Sophie after ten years of marriage. We had a poodle for eight years. Who we adored. We started trying for a child very shortly after we got married and after a couple of years of trying we got our poodle Candie. We always thought we wouldn't get another dog after her because we where sure we would have a baby by the time something ever happened to her. Unfortunately things didn't work out that way. After ten years of trying everything for a child and losing our Candie I couldn't bare being in the house alone. It was so quiet. I didn't want anything that reminded me of Candie and I had been raised with Yorkies so my husband bought Sophie for me. We fell in love with her at first sight. ![]() Sophie'smom |

| ![]() well, i got Sebastian because i moved into a place on my own. A lot of my friends went home for the summer, so its nice to come home to an excited cute little yorkie. Plus i have always had lots of pets from dogs to toads, so living a year with nothing but messy roomates to worry about was hard. i guess im just an animal person. but why a yorkie? look at them! they are the cutest breed of dog, hands down. i dont like big dogs, and Baz is so tiny i can take him with me on a plane, which i nice, i travel often. so thats my story...i might be the only college student on here.. hmm... ![]() ~chelsea |

| ![]() THis is gonna be long.......I am a totally accidental Yorkie owner! In 2003 I was finishing up my master's degree, crazy busy and the last thing on my mind was a dog! I had never had a pet at all (excepot fish that never made it with me). I had been house-sitting for a family for about 6 years and they had a westie (snoball) that I used to watch at least 4 months a year. I love snoball still! During my house-sitting sessions I often had to take her to the vet for various reasons and made a lot of friends at that office. I lived in Fairbanks, AK which is a very small town. Snoball had a vet appt. on my birthday (11/28) and as I was sitting in the waiting area the office door opened and out came the smallest dog I had ever seen (12 weeks and 1.5 pounds) and a woman came after him yelling. Turns out she had just learned that the puppy had a tumor in his belly that would eventually need to be removed and she had decided (and I will never forget this) that "she just didn't want to deal with an imperfect yorkie" the whole time she is yelling and screaming at the vet this little puppy is sitting in my lap licking me and nibbling on my fingers. The woman looked at the vet and said "you can keep him" and stormed out. There are obvious legal issues to this for the vet so they called an attorney, the local animal shelter, the police, and everyone that could help. All of this time the puppy and I are totally falling in love. I didn't care that he wasn't perfect because neither am I! THat was the day I met Simon and he has been with me ever since! The tumor in his belly was removed and he is fine and I think he is perfect! Hallie's story.......June 2004 I get a phone call from the same vet saying the animal shelter was bringing in a small dog who had been abused (kicked/hit/slapped) and neglected and was only 2 pounds. They had taken her from her owners and seized all of her things (including her papers which is how I know her bday). The vet had known I was thinking of getting a playmate for Simon since I didn't want him to be lonely when I started my new job but I was only half serious at the time and was not breed specific at all! I had been taking Simon to the daycare at the vet's office for awhile and they all knew how spoiled he was and how well he was doing at this time so they called me to see if I would be interested in fostering this abused dog (after they kept her for awhile to moniter her health and temperament) and I reluctantly said yes! On July 3, 2004 Hallie came to stay with Simon and I and I have to say we all fell in love instantly. I adopted her officailly the next day and although we have dealt with some issues (obviously with her past) she is now learning to trust others and become more social. She is now a very healthy 5.5 pound princess! Sorry this is so long but like I said, I am an accidental owner ![]() |

| ![]() In 2001, I lost both my beloved Blarny (in March at the age of 16) and Chooch (in June at the age 0f 17). Chooch's loss was particularly hard on me, as he was "MY DOG". Also rather than quietly slipping away in his sleep as had Blarney, I had to have him euthanized (which was a HORROR! His veins had collapsed, so they had to do the injection under his tongue! I still have nightmares!!!). Well, after going through the standard grieving...which had actually been going on since March, when Blarny died...I decided there was NO WAY I was going to be long term without a dog. I had always loved Yorkies...just the look and spirit of them. I never actually knew one "up close and personal", so I went on the search for a reputable breeder. I was introduced to Connie Conn at a regional dog show in August. At that point, my Maggie had just been born (less than a week prior). Connie, however, had plans to keep her, grow her up and show her. I stayed after her with e-mail however, and she ultimately decided I could adopt Maggie. Maggie was my little "Trick or Treat Surprize". I got her on Halloween! Fast forward three years...About a year ago I started thinking of getting Maggie a sister...just started thinking about it at that point. Then about six months ago, I found Connie's business card (KISMET!!!), wrote her a letter about letting me know if she was still breeding, etc. Well, I heard back from her early last month. At that point, she had decided one of the pups she was keeping "to grow up and show" was never going to make it to the size she likes for show (around 5 - 5.5 pounds), and wanted to know if I wanted her. She was, however, "an older dog" at 5 months. On 04/22/04, I got my Molly! What a cutey! 2 pounds 2 oz. of HELL! (She's grown since she joined us, tho'. Last Saturday at her vet appointment, she was clear up to 2#, 4 oz.!) So, now I have two...Maggie and Molly. WHAT FUN!!! (And the breed really is everything I hoped it would be. These little girls make me laugh right out loud every day of my life!) |

| ![]() I got my Maltese about 3 months after my husband and I got married because I'd been wanting a dog all my life but something always kept me from getting one. Tuffy has been such a wonderful addition to the family that after just a couple months of having him I knew I wanted to get a 2nd dog. And a lot of people told me that dogs are better in pairs.. so naturally that helped me want one even more. Since Tuffy is a smaller dog I knew I wanted to get another small dog so there wouldn't be size issues between them.. that and we live in an apartment so small dogs are about all that will fit. My husband and I tossed around the idea of getting another Maltese but the grooming and upkeep are really tough and I knew I didn't want to get another Malt from the breeder I got Tuffy from. My husband was also leaning towards getting a different breed of dog and I suggested a Yorkie or a Papillon. After lots of research and calling around and getting on forums and getting advice we finally decided on a Yorkie and a breeder. We already had picked out her name months before we even decided to start looking for a new dog. We picked Pixie as a name because it was a fun contrast to Tuffy. Pixie came home on April 12th and she's been a fantastic addition to the family. I wouldn't have chosen another breed at all over the Yorkie because she compliments my Maltese so well. ![]() ![]()

| ![]() this is a fun topic great stories. I wanted a yorkie for my whole life (as far back as i can remember) well i grew up and moved on my own and had human kids and cats so didnt really think about getting a dog then one day i went to the store and there in a shopping cart was 13 baby rotties pups i never wanted a big dog but something about 1 of them i walked up to her she was adorable i told my kids no we have cats and went shopping came out and there were only 2 left of course the one i was attracted to so i still said no got in the car and drove half way home and turned around kids said mom what are you doing i said going to nala lol she was the only one left in the cart. I paid 50.00 for her which i really couldnt' afford at the time. But she was the best dog ever. I kinda forgot about yorkies cuz i could never afford one. 5 years later i was at a clients house and she had a yorke pup and mom the pups name was maryia she was so cute of course i bought her she was 800.00 that night the lady called and said her kids were upset that she sold her so she wanted to see if they got better in a couple of days other wise she wanted her back i said no way then we will be attached if you want her back come get her now so she did. Now we were heart broken so i looked in the paper and called on an ad he said all the pups were gone but he had a different female that might be having babies i waited so long for sebastain and he was well worth the wait lol then i was scared to bring him home cuz nala was so big but they got along great as he got bigger they played tug of war and stuff it was really cute. Then i just couldnt stand it i had to have another so i got jasmine 4 months later. In March last year i lost my Nala she had liver diease poor sebastain was so depressed for a long time. I would own 1000 yorkies if i could lol i love them. |

| ![]() I had a dalmatian who died just prior to moving to MO from TX. I had decided then, that I wanted a Yorkie...had her name picked out and everything. I just wasn't ready for ANY dog for awhile, but we saw an ad in the newspaper about yorkie puppies and also found out that sometimes they aren't available whenever you want. We went to see her and came home with our Gracie. About a year ago, my husband wanted his OWN yorkie puppy since Gracie is VERY much MY lapdog. We entertained the idea of breeding our Gracie who is now almost 4 years old (we've moved back to TX), but after reading lots of posts on here, I was scared to death that something would happen to Gracie during this whelping process. I convinced my husband that we should just BUY another and let Gracie alone. LO! Would you believe I met just the right person on here almost immediately after becoming a member! Avery's mom had to get rid of Avery (4 mo old) because her little boy was too rough with him. We met her to see him and, of course, drove away with him! He's an absolute doll and we love him to death. NOW....wanna know the problem? HE is my lapdog, too!!! The two of them have to take turns, but neither want to sit on my husband's lap. He's left out altogether! Our older dog is very much the QUEEN, but Avery snuggles like a little tiny baby. They play together constantly, till they both are completely worn out! It's still hard for me to believe I've got TWO little bitty dogs after growing up with only much larger breeds; boxer, doberman, dalmatian! BUT what a joy they are!! |

| ![]() Well, I got married November of 2003. My husband and I purchased a house and went from our parents homes into our first home together. I come from a noisy happy family. I am one of three girls, my parents have two yippy pomeranians and there are ALWAYS people coming in and out, boyfriends, friends, the cheerleading squad. It's a hectic place. ![]() Adjusting to living in a house with just two people was rough! In addition, my husband works late a lot so I was home alone, in this really quiet house quite often. Don't get me wrong, quiet is nice, but I was lonely! Every once in a while, I would ask for a dog and my husband would say: "Too much responsibility, let's enjoy being newleyweds, a dog is like having a baby, we aren't ready... blah blah blah!" ![]() Finally, in January, (after being married 1 year and 2 months) I said "Lazaro, I am getting a dog, and that's final." He looked at me and said, "OK." THat was followed by several days full of discussions about what breed to get. He wanted a bulldog or bull terrier, I wanted a yorkie... During this time, I had already started calling breeders, looking in the newspaper, etc, because I KNEW I was getting my yorkie. We went to visit a few breeders about mid January and found 'our breeder.' We went to see her on a Sunday. I think it was around January 21 or something like that. Anyhow, she had a litter of yorkies that was ready to go home. Esme was one of her medium sized babies. I didn't want a tiny yorkie since my husband I work full time and I knew the baby would have to spend her days home alone, but I still wanted a small dog I could take places. Esme was 11 weeks at the time. She was in a large crate with another female yorkie when I saw her for the first time. The other yorkie was jumping all over her, and biting Esme's ears. Esme just walked to the edge of the crate, and put her little paw out to me! The breeder took her out, put her in my arms and I was IN LOVE! Then she told us her price... $1250. I thought my husband was going to DIE. ![]() That night, we called the breeder and asked if we could come back. We did and my husband negotiated with the breeders husband, and we paid $900 for Esme!!! Her husband says he has NEVER had anyone negotiate for the price of their dogs before, but he respected my husband for doing it. ![]() SO, (wow this is long) we gave a $300 deposit and came back for her the following Friday. It's been happily ever after since then. I am NEVER lonely!!!! Now I am trying to convince my husband that we need to get a yorkie for Esme so she doesn't feel lonely when we are away either. He isn't going for it just yet..
