Need advice please help I recently purchased a Yorkie pup . I've had her a week and shes been into the vet three times during that period. At her wellniess check, she tested for Giardia and that was treated. I understand that pups have bugs and illnesses. This past time started last night when she began acting as if she needed to vomit but couldnt get anything up. I called my vet who prescribed an over the counter treatment. When she didnt improve by this morning ( and being up all night consoling my girl) I took her in. she was diagnosed with a partially collapsed trachea, and was given a steriod and kept all day for observation. I was told this condition is on going for life. We have to keep her as calm as possible ( which is hard to do with a 10 week old pup) and make sure she is breathing normally and when the spasms start that she doesnt pass out. I was also told that this could develop into a complete collapse. I've contacted the breeder from which I purchased her and are awaiting their thoughts. I'm confused how a pups health can decline so quickly over a weeks time. If anyone has insight or advice as to what to do or anything, I would greatly appreciate it.

| Sorry to hear that happened to your baby. I read where it can collaspe from wearing collars and jerking them with the leash. So I purchased several Harnesses for Kodak. You should get a lot of replies here.

thanks for the support. I feel helpless because I know that it hurts when the spasms happen. My husband is taking it harder than I am, he's pretty much made her a daddy's girl. It's frustrating that she can't even play because she get's into an episode. She's basically confined to laying in our laps trying to breathe or sleeping in her playpen.

Please let us know who the breeder is and how they handle it. That is so sad and I'm so sorry that you and your baby have to go through this. I have been so fortunate to get two healthy babies.

| Poor baby, and poor you! Has a respiratory infection been ruled out? We thought that Luna had CT when we first got her, but she was just really sick and needed antibiotics. If we'd waited, it could have progressed to pneumonia Usually CT doesn't show up so soon, from my understanding. I hope that the breeder will help with any medical bills, they SHOULD.

sorry-that stinks... my baby has a trachea issue from the tube they used when they spayed her (they deny it, but it mysteriously appeared the day after she was brought home from her surgery)... I hope it turns out ok... seems to be a common problem with yorkies, i read about some problems when researching yorkies... good luck.

Here's the Breeders Response This was the complete email response from the breeder. "I don't know what to tell you, we have never had one problem with her here. We have 3 of her litter mates here and all are just great." That surprised me . I would think that there would be some compassion or concern for her shown by them, after all they claim to be Yorkie lovers. I just dont know what to do.

Breathing Problems I would try once again, to see if the Breeder would accept responsibility for her condition, this sounds like it couldn't develop overnite.....if no reply that suits you threaten them with a BBB complaint....that should knock some sense into them....

Re: Are there any places online to find more information on CT ? I'm trying to compile notes so that I can send them to this breeder. So far I've learned that this is a disorder that can be passed onto a pup through blood lines. I sent off my AKC app, last week and I hope to get the 3 generation pedigree papers soon to see what I can find out. I want to get as much understanding of this as possible so I know what's best to do for my girl. I'm not interested in their money, I just want my baby to get better.

Your breeder should be a little more compassionate than that to you. . I know you'll love your puppy unconditionally, but the medical bills alone that you weren't expecting should be comp-ed by the breeder or if it is passed through the bloodline, they at least need to run tests to see which parent it is. I had a couple problems with my breeder at the beginning when I fould out Maizee had Alopecia, but since then the breeder neutered the father after running the tests and is willing to give me a sister for Maizee. Maybe you can work something out with yours as well.

I am so sorry about your puppy. Tracheal Collapse is very serious. I can't imagine how you feel. I too know how it feels to go through vast health issue with a sickly puppy. Best wishes to you both and han in there. There is light at the end of the tunnel for you both.

Re: Update I noticed that Lo was congested, so I called my vet and they added an antibiotic to her treatment now. I'm going to get an air purifier from the store to help catch airbourne irritants. I'm still trying to work with the breeder . The last response was to bring her back up there for him to doctor her up at the facility.I'm a little apprehensive about that. It's alos quite a trip. It's a six hour drive one way and I don't have the financial means to drive up there twice in a span of a few days. They claim vet's like to cheat people out of money. I know that they haven't had good experiences with their vet's, but we've had ours for over six years and the whole staff has been wonderful to us and our three dogs.
