I recently purchased a Yorkie pup . I've had her a week and shes been into the vet three times during that period. At her wellniess check, she tested for Giardia and that was treated. I understand that pups have bugs and illnesses. This past time started last night when she began acting as if she needed to vomit but couldnt get anything up. I called my vet who prescribed an over the counter treatment. When she didnt improve by this morning ( and being up all night consoling my girl) I took her in.
she was diagnosed with a partially collapsed trachea, and was given a steriod and kept all day for observation. I was told this condition is on going for life. We have to keep her as calm as possible ( which is hard to do with a 10 week old pup) and make sure she is breathing normally and when the spasms start that she doesnt pass out. I was also told that this could develop into a complete collapse.
I've contacted the breeder from which I purchased her and are awaiting their thoughts. I'm confused how a pups health can decline so quickly over a weeks time. If anyone has insight or advice as to what to do or anything, I would greatly appreciate it.
