Years ago I had a small terrier that mated with a lab and i was horrified. I called the vet and he told me that even though the lab was so much bigger than the terrier, the puppies would adjust to her size.

She had eight, yes eight, puppies all of them lived and i ended up keeping one which to this day is 13 years old and is 40 pounds.

Of course, i think it is insane to breed on purpose a large and small dog together.

Funny this thread came up at this time...I just signed on a new client, that has a rescue (lab mix)...Just out of curiosity, she had a DNA test done, and it turned out to be a lab/yorkie mix! I gotta tell you, that girl, named Lucy, is the sweetest dog you'd ever want to meet...She's pretty big, like a black lab, but she's got the spunk of a yorkie ...I don't know how these guys manage to "get'er done", but seems like it works out o.k.
