What's the better sex?? I've been doing a lot of research as I have been planning on purchasing a yorkie for some time. I have heard that boys can be more loyal and fawning as they are more protective....also that with dogs, females are more dominant so males are more affectionate. I've also heard there really isn't a difference.....and that even with spaying a female, when she's in heat she will bleed a LOT and her mood can change....help?!

Welcome to yorkie talk! I own a male and a female and it really does depend on personality just like people. Both my male and female are affectionate and love to cuddle although my male is more independent. My female is all little girl, not very athletic but can be aggressive when she needs to defend herself. She has the "big dog" yorkie personality. My male is "all boy", athletic and loves to run run run. Once you spay a female there is no more bleeding and no mood swings really.

I think its a very personal choice I like the girls because you dont have to worry about the marking. Both of my girls are super affectionate and clingy so I dont beleive in the saying that the boys are more affectionate at all..it all depends of their personalities To me dealing with a female in heat once or twice ayear is alot easier than dealing with a male that marks all over the house all his life lol.

My males are definitely more sweeter than my girls. And my girls are true to the calling. Big B** But I heard it is not always the case. I think you should choose the sex you want. Temperment differs from dogs to dogs. Can't always sterotype a dog by its gender. P.S. When a female is spayed they do not go into heat. They are cleaned out. (spaying = hysterectomy).

| I don't really believe that one is better. Each dog has its own personality. I think either one can be affectionate or independent. Just depends on if you want to buy little pink dresses or not.

I have both a boy and a girl. Both are affectionate and both are so much fun BUT Max is more affectionate than Missy. Missy likes to cuddle when she is tired of playing but Max will cuddle anytime of the day tired or not. I can stop him the the middle of play and just hold him like a baby and he melts in my arms.

I have 3 boys and 4 girls. All of my boys are way more cuddly than the girls. My oldest will cuddle with her dad sometimes and me as long as dad isn't around, but my boys always want to cuddle.

I've had males and females and it seems I always bond with the males. I love them all but there IS something about those little boys.

| I can't say much on a difference because I have always had male dogs... But I love my little boy bunches! An added bonus to males is they are usually cheaper than females, but don't let that sway you away from buying a great girl with a sweet personality, its just a boy bonus!

Thank you to all who responded! Now all I have to do is find a reputable true HOBBY breeder close to me that will take the $1,100 I have and give me a healthy, happy yorkie! If anyone knows of any feel free to let me in!
