Sweater Needed? I live in Maryland where the weather can get pretty cold. Rottie is my first small breed puppy (yorkie/chahuahua). Do small breeds need a warm sweater and booties to go outside?

depends on how cold it gets... and really depends on each puppy.. yesterday it was -1 Celcius here... and the wind was cold.... so i put a jacket on layla.. but she doen'st seem to care much.. she'l stay out there.. but i'd say if you are worried about him... then put one on.. the boots.. not so much needed

Maizee hates the cold. I usually have a sweater on her even when she's indoors because she is almost constantly shivering. She has alopecia so that doesn't help, but I never let her go outside without a sweater on. She doesn't seem to mind. I dont use boots; they don't seem to help much because she usually shakes them off. I just dig through the snow, if there is snow, and make her a path to go potty. With the sweaters, even if they hate them to start, they usually get used to them. Never hurts to try!

If the temperature (or wind chill) is in mid 30s or lower, I put a Fido Fleece on Sean. After all, if I'm wearing a down jacket, I figure he probably needs something, too. I never put booties or anything else on my Yorkies' feet.

| Hi, I also live in MD. (Hagerstown) We definately get some cold days here and I would definately suggest buying a few sweaters or even Pjs. (fleece ones keep them so warm) If your baby is going to go outside to potty then I would definately get something. I never had luck keeping the boots on. Mine hate them. My two yorkies use the little box with a pee pad in it instead of litter. However, since it started to get cold they always have something on them even if they don't go out. My pekingese goes outside to potty and always has a sweater on. Little dogs get colds so easily so I think any type of clothing is better then none. Good Luck to you and Congrats!! on the new little one
