Question about the cold I live in Alberta, Canada, and in the winter it gets mighty cold. Right now it is -23. I want to train our puppy to go outside, but I think this is to cold. If I wait until the spring will that be to late to train him to start going outside? He will only be about 8 months old at that time. I am currently trying to housebreak him, he pees on the paper sometimes but still has his accidents. Can someone let me know what is a good temperature to take him outside it? what is too cold and what would be alright, I would like him to get used to the snow and stuff, for when it is a little bit warmer, just so that he isn't scared of it. Thanks so much!!!

| How old is your puppy? I ask because if it is young those temperatures may be too harsh for it. I got both of mine in the winter and unsuccessfully tried to peepad train them in the winter. I trained them to go outside in the Spring

he is really young, will be 11 weeks on Friday, I wasn't planning on taking him outside, but the weather is supposed to warm up to about plus 2 this weekend. I would never take him outside in this cold cold weather, that would not be good as I know that they can catch a chill very easily since they don't have an under coat. Thanks for your help.

It would be futile to try to train him outside in the cold. he will just stand there and shiver. I would use the pee pads for now and wait till spring to train outside. Mine are trained to both and it's very convenient to have them pad trained, for nasty weather or when I'm going to be gone for several hours.

thanks so much for the help and information. I don't want him to get sick so I would rather he be pad trained inside for now and then slowly train him in the spring to go outside!!
