| ![]() Well, this was pretty quick. I connected with someone through the board who had one male Yorkie 4 and a half months old. He just came home and he's sitting here next to me in my bed in his little bed. He's so cute and so sweet. I think he's very nervous and scared. He seemed very close to the other dogs in his household and was close to one of the kids in it. He's so sweet. He keep coming over to me wanting to be held. I setup a playpen for him in the kitchen, with his crate and a litter box (with a puppy pad in it - because he's puppy pad trained currently). I also threw a bunch of his old toys in there. I was sitting with him in there. I think he's clearly tired, I went into my room and when I came back he was right in his crate! I guess I won't have any problems crate training him. He's being really nice, but I think all this calmness is more because he's sad and scared that he left his place. He did poop twice on the floor (not on the litter box), but as I read here I didn't punish him at all for it because I didn't see him do it. He also peed on the floor. Right now he's just sitting on the bed. I think I should stay with him until it looks like he wants to go to the bathroom and then I'm going to carry him right over to his litter box. Is that the best course of action? I'm going to stay home with him the next two days to make sure he gets accomodated to his new circumstances. Based on everyone's experience here, how long does it traditionally take for your new puppy who might be used to an old home to cheer up? Should I be worried? |

| ![]() Seems to me it usually took about a week before their full personality came out. That baby is very young and it's whole world has changed. Sounds like you're doing all the right things to make it feel secure and learn to trust you. When you notice that it needs to go take it to the litter box, place him in it and gently say "go potty". When he does tell him "good boy to go potty" and give him a little treat. Leave the pee in the box for a while so he can tell where he went. He'll put it all together before too long. Enjoy your new boy! ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() Don't worry give it a few days and he will unfold before your eyes! I just brought Jaxson home on the 10th and I only got to spend the weekend with him before going back to work. I come home on my lunch break to check on him and he already know the routine. It was about 3 to 4 days before he started eating right and playing with his toys. This past weekend he started running around 90mph and stalking his toys then pouncing them to death! So he is definately adjusting and he knows I am mommy. Just make sure you do what you have to do to make sure he is eating and drinking. I swear I did not see Jaxson drink any water the first couple of days. I had to mash all his food up. Sunday he actually ate ALL his food in his dish and I was over the moon. The adjustment is just as stressful to us as it is to them because they are so little your paranoid about EVERYTHING! ![]() |
