my babies are chewing up the puppy pads

My male has started chewing up the puppy pads and yesterdy started coughing and threw up pieces of the plastic backing. We tried news paper and they just shred it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

They make pee pad holders that will hold the pad in place or you could try the washable reusable pee pads.

I had the same problem with Poptart. He loved chewing up his pads, it was his favorite thing to do. I even tried a pad holder. It didn't work at all, he still found a way to grab it and chew it up into pieces. I got so tired of having to pick up pieces of shredded used puppy pads. So I took someone's advice and bought the reusable ones. What a difference!!! The pads are thicker made with a cloth material so they can't chew it up. They even absorb twice as much as the disposable ones. Plus they save you money since you can wash them and use them over rather than throwing pads away and keep buying new ones. They wash up so nice, they are like new everytime they are washed which is amazing if you knew how much my boys peed on them. I was sure they would stain with my boys but nope I washed them and couldn't believe they came out looking new, not a single stain, they looked perfect. It is the best money I ever spent!!

Poor Poptart didn't know what to do with himself, he realized he couldn't tear these pads up. The problem was solved.

I have the same problem too but am curious about the reusable. Do you have to wash daily as they sure will stink up the place if left for days in the hamper. If so, that could be more work for me How often do you wash and what do you do so as not to stink up the room with soiled pee material.

With that website, they may be good but I got mine from puppy pads and I didn't like them. Yes, they are reusable and washable but I didn't want to necessarily throw in Diamond's pee pads in the washer where I put all of my clothes! Not only that but once your furbaby pees on them, they STINK. After I washed mine, it still smelled a little. Maybe because the ones I had were more like pads and that website has cloth type ones...who knows.

I bought 18 pads, but I have 6 dogs that use pads. So I use about 6 pads a day. So every other day I put them in the wash. The more pads you have, the less often you have to wash them. I keep the soiled pads in a plastic storage bin, the lid is closed on it good so there is absolutely no smell coming from it. If you want, you could even put a deodorizer in the bin to get rid of any smell. But it does not smell up the room at all, I am not sure what it would be like though if you had an open hamper though.

The pads do wash up nice and with the pads I bought, they do not smell after they are washed. I just put a little bit of detergent in the wash, no softeners, and after they are dried, they come out smelling good and fresh and looking brand new.

I would recommend a pee pad holder. When mine was about 4-5 months, he started chewing on his pee pad as well. After that I started using a pee pad holder and it worked. The chewing stopped..and then I slowly started training him to go outside and TADA!!! AFter months..mission accomplished!

Thanks for the info. I am willing to try anything as long as it is safe for the puppies. I just don't want them getting that plastic in their tummies and make them sick.

Venus did the same thing that first day I put them down. I started taping them down, and watching her closely. When she'd try to pull them up, I'd stop her.

I quit taping them down recently and she hasn't trying playing with them again. Took a few months though, before I tried putting them down without tape.

Sadie used to do this as a puppy but grew out of it. She still likes to run around the house with one when she feels like being ornery, but she doesn't eat it anymore.

I had been using cloth pads and was trying to come up with a better solution since I was constantly washing them and my puppy also was showing an interest in dragging them around.

I searched the Internet and found an Indoor Potty which I am very happy with. It has a plastic base with an indentation to place newspaper. It then gets covered with a plastic grid. The benefits are no more wet paws, it can't be moved unless I move it, no more washing, and it the newspaper doesn't hold the smell of urine like the cloth pads did. I just ordered another one for the upstairs.

Yuki used to shred her potty pads too, until I switched brands. I used to buy the cheapest potty pads I could find at Wal-Mart, but now I buy the Arm and Hammer brand from Target. Ever since the switch she hasn't shred her potty pads.

When Keegan was a pup he'd grab a pad and run, it fluttered behing him like a banner. He thought it was the greatest of games. I put the pad in a litterbox now and nobody bothers them, it seems to have done the trick.

I ran out of pee pads and my puppy refuses to go on the newspaper. She keeps pooping and peeing everywhere! When i do have the pads she is better but still has accidents. My husband wants me to sell her cause he cant take her messing all the time.

How old is your baby? Have you thought about training to go in a litterbox? It just takes time but most of them get potty training eventually.
