| What is your yorkies typical day?? What is your yorkies typical day?? Ok everyone i have a question & need advice. I just got a new schedule last week and having trouble to adjust. I have been working from 9am-6pm Monday-Friday. After 6:00 i spend an hour w/my boyfriend (lives 5 minutes from my work) and then i have to go to the gym for two hours. When i get home its 9:30 or 10:00pm. My brother spends sometime w/Toto during the day when he gets out of school. And then my mom during the evening when she gets out of work. But lately shes been tired and Toto just is not behaving, he gets into everything bits my brother & barks at him whenever he wants everyone already knows the reason why (its calm down a little) but my mom said i need to buy a crate for the times that everyone is busy or if he's not behaving or listening they can just put him in. He's not going to be in there all day he has my bedroom and hallway to himself until my brother gets there my brother will only put him in there if he's not behaving or if he's becomes a monster the same with everyone else. When i get home i play w/toto for a good 2 hours and then he goes to sleep w/me. What do you think about the crate? Does anyone have a 8 hour work schedule? What does your typical day consist of?

| Hi April! I leave Missy and Max home while I got to work and they stay in my bedroom. I puppy proofed my room so there wasnt any cords or anything dangerous they could get into. I leave them at home from 8am - 5pm. I've been doing that for the past 6 months and its worked out perfectly. I leave them in my room, with food and water in the bathroom tile area, they have their bed in my room and all their toys, I even leave the TV on low so there is some noise for them. Can you leave toto in your room and ask your mom and brother to take him out of the room at a certain time to play with him? I also have a crate, they sell them at any pet store, you can even buy one online pretty resonable price off www.petedge.com I've noticed my yorkies do really well with a schedule, so maybe you can think of a schedule that will work for you and your family. Maybe you can keep him in your room in the crate or free to roam up to you from the time you leave to work till 2 when your brother gets home, your brother can let him free play for about 2 hours then put back in the crate till mom gets home then mom lets him out for 2 hours then back in till you get home etc. Thats just an example but maybe you can come up with something that will work for you. If I were to crate my yorkies I would put their fav blanket in there and some water and some food. Good Luck!! |

| I work from 8-5. BUT, Baxter isn't in his crate that whole time. I leave the house around 7:15 and Baxter is home until around 2 when my boyfriend comes home (so he doesn't have to be alone all day). It isn't a good idea to use a crate as a punishment. They should understand that their crate is a safe place....a home inside of your own home that they can call their own. Good luck.

| I'm sorry if you misunderstood but he wouldn't be put in there for punishment only if he's getting out of control and my mom can't watch him at that exact moment because she's doing other things then he'll be put in there. We don't punish him we just tell him no and off he goes to do whatever he pleases. Its just so he can be in our site when were not able to have him out because were busy doing other things.

| Hi! I have agonized over leaving my babies too! I don't know where you live or if it is an option for you but here in NY I have found a doggie daycare that I take them to a few times a week. It isn't cheap but it gets them socialized and they play all day. When I do leave them home I have 2 excercise pens connected and inside are their crates (open), blankets, water, and a pee pad. But I always come home for lunch if they are here, do you have that option? It is nice that you have your family to help, you are lucky that way good luck and keep us updated. |

| Our yorkies typical day is when I leave they run down and wake up my husband. They do not allow him to sleep in once I leave the house. I typically leave the house at about 4:40 am. So, because of this habit my babies picked up, they always get a special treat from Mom. I have VERY long hours. I am usually away from the house about 15 hours. Fortunately, my husband has much shorter hours. Jordan and Skeeter are alone on average 6 to 8 hours. We keep them in the utility room with the door leading into the kitchen latched open and we altered a baby gate and attached it to the door frame with hinges. This way, they can see out. Skeeter ate through a plastic baby gate, so the metal one covered with rubber works. They have their blankets, toys and chewies. The radio is on and we can actually see them from the kitchen window. We have enough room to put down papers if we know we are going to be gone long. Hey, I can't hold it for 8 hours. They have each other and keep each other company. Since we lost our third yorkie, Jackson, in March, they have become really close. Good luck |

| Usually Jackson gets his first walk at 6 AM. We do not use pads any longer and he rarely has accidents. Then I leave him in his playpen until 9AM. Then we play catch for about 20 minutes. Then he rests and I walk him again at 10:30. Sometimes I will take him on errands with me but other times he stays at home until 1:30. Then he walks again. He stays with me in the house until 3:30 and then he goes back in his playpen until 6 PM when he gets another walk. He walks again at 7:30 and he goes to sleep at 10 PM. |
