| Little ones & anesthesia How risky is it for a 2.8 lb yorkie to go under anesthesia? Anyone have an experience they could share? |

| Maddie has to under go emergency surgery for two hernia and they spayed her at the same time. She was exactly 2.9lbs when she had it. Make sure they have the gas kind. Its safier and they can regulate it better. She did fine. Was really sleepy for the next few days. And make sure and do the preblood work too. |

| Jodi, Peppy is 3.25 lbs. and underwent anesthesia for a tooth extraction. He did fine. My vet ALWAYS does blood work immediately prior to surgery to rule out any liver disorders which can be fatal when mixed with anesthesia. Dr. Amy uses isoflourin which is a safe way to go. Good luck! |

| Jodi, Sissy was just 3 lbs when she was spayed. As said before, make sure you get the pre-op blood work and a vet who knows how to use caution with the little ones. Sissy was just fine the next day!!!

| Riley (3lb 5oz) has "gone under" twice now with no problem. In fact she just got spayed & 14 teeth extracted on Friday & yesterday she was fine. She really surprised me. Her vet also does blood test immediately before surgery. |

| I'm stuck there too. I, who preaches SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PET, still haven't had Little Bit spayed (at 7 months) because I am scared to have her anesthetized. But I am, I am, I'm just waiting to be sure that if there are any teeth that need to be extracted, we can do it at the same time. I really don't want to wait so long that she comes into season first, though. I wonder how much longer I can wait though without increasing her chances of other problems from a delayed spay?? There really isn't any danger of her being bred since she is never outside my house without being in her carrier or on a leash and we have no other pets. Quote:
