Will it grow?

Bella is 5 months old and her hair is still pretty short, her mom and dad both had long beautiful hair. I am hoping hers will be the same. About when should she start getting her adult coat?(I guess what that is what it is called)

Her hair will grow, some do take a little longer then others. No need to worry, she will have a beautiful coat like her parents!

What is the color of her coat at the roots and what is the texture? Every once in a while a pup comes along that is deep in color, has the texture of coarse silk, and grows about 1/3 the rate of other coats, breaking off easily. If that sounds like your baby you may have a redleg on your hands. They are used by breeders every 4th or 5th generation to bring color and strength back into the line. They're a breeze to groom!

I bought mine from a reputable show breeder and paid alot. He has slanty eyes and a coat as you describe, doesn't resemble the breeder's picture at all. I would say it's a very thin coarse silk but he's not a redleg. He has brittle ends. I had asked his breeder after he arrived if she had cut his coat, said no or what had she done to it. However she totally mispresented this dog and I caught her in many fibs afterwards. She also said he'd have a coat to the floor. I doubt he'll grow a coat as long as a puppy cut.

Do you happen to have a pic of the dogs? I'm sure you've tryed different shampoos and food. Some yorkies just end up having a hard coat or what some show people call no coat, even though there was no evidence of it in 3 generations. It's a throw back, great for pet pups but impossible to show.

It wasn't great to pay $3000. for this "pet" dog who arrived full of issues, his coat being the least of them. So much for researching great breeders. If I sound bitter, I am.

I'm sure it'll grow. It took Thor's coat a long time to 'get kickin' and start growing. Hang in there!
