| Does your Yorkie swim? I've been looking at the pet stores and I've seen many life jackets for dogs and I am thinking about getting a couple for my two. I think I'm going to go ahead with buying the life jackets because if we ever go anywhere with a lake or pool, I would want to make sure they were safe if they fell in. But, they have never been swimming before and I was just wondering what other people experiences were with their yorkies swimming. Do they like it? Did you have to teach them? |

| Yes, yorkies can swim. Cooper goes swimming, but he gets wet and then he likes to relax on a raft for the most part. He likes to play with his toys in the shallow part. At first he wasn't sure if he liked it so I held him in the water and my husband would call him and eventually he swam to him. I don't let him in the pool by himself. Someone responsible has to be there at all times(just like a kid) I think the life jackets are for boat rides, but I could be wrong.

| Most dogs naturally know how to swim. But you can't go wrong with the life vest, better to be safe. I know when Rocky's hair was longer it would kinda weigh him down. Also, he would get tired real fast and sometimes start to sink under.

| Dogs can usually swim, but from from what I understand, they usually CANNOT get out of pools by themselves. I'd think Yorkies would have an especially hard time because they're small and if their hair is long, it will weigh them down. Natural bodies of water are easier because usually they have gently sloping sides or vegetation, etc. that a dog can use to get a foothold on to clamber out on. |

| My Yorkies are swimmers. I had the pool built so they have there on entrance and exit. They know where to go in and get out of the pool. Plus when we take the boat out to the lake they run for the water and then play first and then get in the boat and sit on the seat. If I had a Yorkie that could not swim, I would teach it first before letting it in a pool. Get a baby pool and let them run around in it first. Judy |

| All three of mine HATE the water.... I put them on the step of the pool and they quickly jump out!! But Bell does like climbing into the pond! Go figure!! I think it is because she can touch the bottom.

Oh I would NEVER, NEVER let mine swim alone. I'm just really paranoid and would have them wear the jackets if we were anywhere near water, for my own peace of mind.

| Swimmers!! I have 5 yorkies and they all swim. I bought them all life jackets and when I put them on .... they absolutely would not even move. I returned them and got my money back! They really love to float around in their raft! |

Aww, I love those pictures. I am kinda worried about the not moving thing. Wesley HATES clothes and refuses to move if I put them on him. After I put the clothes on he will remain in whatever position I put him down in. He just doesn't know what to do with them on. Maddie doesn't care about clothes at all though. As long as I bring her ball out, she doesn't even notice what she's wearing. But I'm thinking I might still make Wesley wear one when I'm not right by him or when there are alot of things going on and I might be distracted. I know he probably won't like it, but t's better safe than sorry. I would never forgive myself if something happened to them when I know I could have prevented it. Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone!
