I think it is a perfect idea to protect the buyer..but the unreputable seller will never go for it and the reputable breeder either IMO.

The main reason a person gets one of my puppies is the trust factor. Honestly, it is not the money side...lots of people have the money, lots of them I do not like or trust.
I understand not trusting me...so I try all possible ways to allow you to know me. You talk to my vet, you come to my home, you can talk to anyone you like..previous buyers etc. Club members also. I might agree to meet you at the vets office with the puppy and there will be no reason for puppy not to pass a vet check, because it has already had one the day before I sold it to you.

Where do you find a "disinterested" escrow holder? Do people do this free of charge? What if the vet finds a minor problem like a retained testicule on a small puppy...it happens when a pup is scared in the office? What if the vet does not know Yorkies that well and tells the buyer the ears will never go up, the bite is not correct, color is not correct, etc, etc...buyer wants to keep the pup because in the 30 mins it takes to get from the airport to the vet they are IN LOVE! So buyer wants price reduced, only to find later the testicule appears, the bites is acceptable, the color comes in perfectly, ears go up..etc etc.
I agree the buyer needs protection, but I do not know if escrow is the answer.. I do no most reputable breeders will not go along with it. The main reason is too many things can happen to a puppy from the time it leaves the breeders home until it arrives at the vets..days can pass..a breeder can make all the rules they want to get pup to vet right after arrival. Many pups are shipped on Saturday afternoon, arrive after vet is closed, no vet check until MONDAY morning...no reputable breeder is going to allow that either.

Pat, I totally agree with you. When buying a puppy it's so important to really get to know the breeder, talk to them, research, check references, trust them. If for any reason you start getting an uneasy feeling ~ don't buy! Always trust your gut instinct. Also remember that breeders are wanting to know about you. If they get an uneasy feeling, they will not sell you a pup.They are wanting to make sure their pups are going to good homes

I agree with YorkieRose. Any reputable, responsible breeder deals directly with the buyer on all levels. An initial interview between the breeder and buyer will reveal a lot. I know at the end of that interview whether or not the person is the right one for my baby. My hubby has tried to be impartiel and suggest I have the person over for a face-to-face meeting. Okay, I did that and still didn't like them. I have sent a number of people packing without a uppy over the years. In some instances, I have helped them find a puppy from another breeder who does not have the same philosophies as I..I have never shipped ..I would be way too sad to take one of my babies to the sirport and send them on their way. I like to get pics of my baby and its new owner as they are ready to leave..
What I am saying is, if either party cannot trust the other, they should not deal with each other. JMHO

Thanks guys, but I was just curious about it thats all. I found someone on here that wants to sell a puppy but is a newbie and dont know her very well. I am very interested he is so adorable but I still have not heard back from her except when she sent pics. I dont know anything about buying from the internet and just wanted to know what that escrow was about.

I think the website Luvmypupster came up with is perfect! All of the terms can be agreed upon between the parties in a written contract before the puppy is shipped. It would be nice if we could all trust each other, but that just isn't reality. Breeders get burned and buyers get burned. Not frequently I hope but it does happen. This is a great solution and protects both sides. I am sure most breeders wouldn't want an unhappy owner and would willingly take the puppy back and refund the money if the buyer was unhappy when he received the puppy.

It might be better to pay a local breeder or broker to pick up the puppy from the ariport and keep the puupy in her possession until it is vet checked. Would that be more acceptable to the breeders on here? Of course the escrow holder would be conpensated for their time.
