| Maybe he likes the taste of his shampoo/conditioner? Change it? Many dogs will excessively lick a place on their body until it becomes a habit that then develops into a "hot spot" which must be treated. The best thing is to tell the dog "no" when you notice that he/she is doing this way too often. At least this has worked for me with Pogo, who sometimes will worry a spot on the inside of his rear leg. He seems to take well to the "no" and quits licking. Your vet may have a suggestion if the licking becomes obsessive. |

| Sometimes It can be an allergey to something they suggest to have a pan of water by the door and wash their feet off as they come in.

| Maddie does that to. I have noticed it is when there is dew on the grass, she doesn't like to have her feet wet. Lucky my chow-mix that is 15 does it , when dogs get old the get like warts and if she has one on her leg she will lick and lick. I got a spray from Doc that must taste bad and she will quite. It is called Gentocin and I have had the same bottle for years. Hope this helps..............Cindy |

| Do you think it could be a reaction to the cleaning products you use.. like for example, a Swiffer mop? That's the first thing I thought of. I could be wrong, but it wouldn't hurt to rule it out. |

| If it's just a little licking I would just keep an eye on him but if it becomes excessive it could be an allergy or maybe even a form of OCD. This kind of behavior can evolve into a big problem. They can start chewing, develop hot spots loose hair etc. See a vet if you are concerned. Also make sure you are feeding a good quality kibble and no people fool so you can try and figure out if it's a food allergy. I have heard wonderful things about a product called missing link, it's a supplement that you sprinkle on their food. You can purchase on line, at petsmart, petco, etc. I have heard many testimonials from many people that have had dogs with skin or allergy problems. The see major changes in their pets. It's suppose to be great for them and improves coat quality. I started mine on it about a week ago...not for skin problems...just the health benefits. Visit the website of the company and read some testimonials. I first heard about from Dogomania. It may be worth a try. Also...Bitter Apple can be applied directly to the dog to discourage licking, fur biting. etc. That may seem harsh but to prevent a very disfiguring habit from forming sometimes may take some extreme measure. It says directly on the bottle that it can be used for this. I have no idea how much your dog is doing this but I have seen photos of some pets that get themselves into a bad situation from this type problem. I would try and nip it in the bud. Good luck. http://www.designinghealth.com/produ...ucts_main.html
