| Words of wisdom, please! Tonight, while massaging and scratching on Maddie, I found a bump on the back of her lower neck. Of course I freaked, thinking it's probably a tic. I have looked with a magnifying glass and even got out a flashlight, but it is so hard to see...trying to keep the hair back and hold the flashlight and all. I think it may be a scab, but I'm not sure. It could be a tick! What should I do? Should I pull the thing off...with a tweezer of course...or maybe put some olive oil on it...What do you think?

| We do not really have ticks in my area, so I am personally clueless, but I looked in my pet first aid book and here is what it says: (1) Use sharp pointed tweezers or "tick tweezers" (2) Grasp it as firmly as close to its imbedded mouth parts as possible *If the tick ruptures or secretes from the mouth you risk spreading more disease (3) Pull out with a straight and steady motion being careful not to twist or turn the tweezers or the tick (4) Do not apply any substances to the tick before removing it - no alcohol or nail polish, no petroleum jelly or other ointments, and do not try to burn it out or otherwise convince to let go (5) apply triple antibiotic cream to the area once the tick is removed Hope that helps!

| Thanks so much! I am going to try that. I'm thinking it may be a little scab...maybe my daughter's puppy bit her or something...but just in case it IS a tic, I'll try to remove it! Yuck! I don't like tics...they give me the everlov'n creeps!

| Okay...I pulled it off...I think it was a scab and not a tic. Now I'm worried it could be another one of those maggots! Ugh. I cleaned it with HP and put some antibiotic cream on and I'll have to keep a close watch. Hopefully it's nothing and will disappear on it's own!

| My older Yorkie ASTI (17yr) has lumbs every where. I have had some removed around her milk sacs. the vet seem to not worry about the rest of them... but her age might play a factor in that. (sorry I forgot what the lumbs are called). If you think it is a lump not a bug or ect.. go to your vet ..but don't worry..ASTI has had these lumbs for a very long time and more keeps comeing..
