We do not really have ticks in my area, so I am personally clueless, but I looked in my pet first aid book and here is what it says:
(1) Use sharp pointed tweezers or "tick tweezers"
(2) Grasp it as firmly as close to its imbedded mouth parts as possible
*If the tick ruptures or secretes from the mouth you risk spreading more disease
(3) Pull out with a straight and steady motion being careful not to twist or turn the tweezers or the tick
(4) Do not apply any substances to the tick before removing it - no alcohol or nail polish, no petroleum jelly or other ointments, and do not try to burn it out or otherwise convince to let go
(5) apply triple antibiotic cream to the area once the tick is removed
Hope that helps! |
