When Jake smiles, he hasn't shown any teeth yet. I did see him smile once and show teeth when he was chasing my grandson around lol. But, he just sits there and looks up at me like he's really listening intently and gives me a cute little smile with his mouth closed. It melts my heart!

I know. Yorkie mouths just melt my heart. I don't know if I'll ever get that toothy smile out of Kacee like I did Muffin or not. Muffin had that goofy personality. She was more of an extravert. Kacee is shy and I'll keep trying, but I bet I never get the same toothy grin Muffin had.

I think yorkies are very human-like. In fact, when my breeder and I were talking before I got Jake, she mentioned that to me. I think Jake seems very child-like. He has alot of different facial expressions, and I've never seen any other breed that are like that. I can sit and watch him play for hours because he fascinates me. I was always very interested in child development, so when mine were babies, I would watch the things they did, and I found it so interesting. And, what's even more interesting, is that there's a reason for all the things they do. Now I find myself watching my grandchildren, and it amazes me how their little brains are like sponges. Yorkies are so much like children to me.

It's true. They are more human-like than anything I've ever seen. Funny thing is that I still have an article that I clipped from when I first got my little Muffin in 1991 and it said the same thing.

The funny thing is, I feel like Jake communicates his feelings just by how he's acting or by his facial expression. He doesn't have to talk, I know what he wants just by the expression. My hubby agrees with me, and he just can't get over how child-like Jake is.

If you tell this to people who haven't been around yorkies, they just think you're nuts lol.

Oh I completely agree. They are very human like for sure. And I can always tell what my babies are feeling or wanting by their facial expressions too! But mine really do seem to be soo happy all the time. I have sooooo many smiling pics its not even funny! I love it!!!!

You're absolutely correct. Muffin had a bunch of facial expressions that I could immediately recognize what they meant. They were fear or scared, pain, happiness, and pouting.

When she was running around the house and she was happy, her mouth was open and the sides of her mouth were pulled back.

When she was scared, she made a grimace (actually) and pulled her upper lip up just as a person would with a frown.

When she was in pain, she'd make the same expression as she would when she was scared, except she'd pull the sides of her mouth completely back.

When she pouted, she'd lay down on the floor not too far from me and turn her rear end toward me. She'd lay her head down and would completely ignore me.

I left out the grin. Then she'd pull that upper lip all of the way up.

Jake pouts at me exactly the same way, it's too funny!

He knows when I'm getting ready for work now, and he'll look up at me with such a sad expression, it breaks my heart. His mouth is curled under like he's frowning.

Another thing he does that's so adorable is when something scares him, he'll come running to me and I'll pick him up and cuddle him. He puts his head on my shoulder and makes these little whimpering sounds like he's telling me what's wrong. It's so funny, and if I start saying things like "oh you poor little guy, you poor neglected baby", etc., he will carry on even more lol
