Why would a breeder delay a sale?

From the other perspective.....This breeder may be considering the well being of the pup first and foremost (as he should)and may feel that a tiny pup will be better off in a quieter home with an elderly person that may not have other dogs. I don't think it's fair to make assumptions of greed, when the breeder did offer to return the deposit. It isn't an easy thing to wait, but I would prefer to wait on a quality pup from a breeder that is deliberate about placement and doesn't do first come, first serve..

That's horrible that you're having to go through this. Whether the breeder accepted more money or is looking out for the best interest of the pup (although after reading another post yesterday, it seems that the pup would be better off in your home than in the home of an old lady), it still doesn't make it less disappointing. I hope you that can find the show quality pup that you've been looking for (and soon!) from a breeder than won't continuously disappoint you.

I'm so disappointed. When you have had your hopes up for so long and to be let down.... it's just upsetting.

This man is not a show dog breeder, I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and familiar with the exhibitor breeders in Texas. Otherwise he wouldn't be telling you that he had a "small male" that was show quality...

I know how you feel. I waited months for my little boy to be born, and he died after two weeks. The breeder promiced me the first male born in the next litter. When he was born, i was in Alaska. She sent me pictures on the internet every week, and I called her enough to be a real pain. When he was 12 weeks, I came to get him. She told me he had a bad cough, and she was trying to get me another puppy. I was frantic. I was in love with this little guy from the day he was born, and I couldn't face losing him. I know it isn't wise to buy a puppy when there might be a problem, but a quick visit to the vet was all I needed to know he was fine, except for a cough from his head, not his chest. I am so glad got my boy, and I found out later that the puppies in his litter sold for twice what I had paid. I guess I was just meant to have my Sawyer; and you will get the right one for you too.
