I'm not sure how old he was when he was neutered, but my guess is it was in the last few years. He's 10 now. My vet said, and I confirmed it online, that unneutered dogs face a bunch of health risks, and a perianal hernia (some call it a perineal hernia) is one of them. My dilemma is it's a $700+ surgery, and he's in no pain from it. There are risks to doing it and not doing it, so I've put it off.

Yeah, talk to your vet about Mojo if you're not going to breed. I don't think 3 is too old at all.

Ahhh, thanks for the clarification. I'm obviously not a breeder. Once I have fulfilled my obligation of him studding a litter I'm having him neutered. Will that make a difference? I would die if his personality changed- he's my little baby. Sorry- I don't mean to hijack- hope this information is useful to the OP too.

Thanks for the info.......I have never heard of this before, but I will be checking it out! There are so many pros/cons to everything - it makes it hard to decide what is right and not right to do or not do!
