Introducing myself & hotel question! Hi to all the yorkie lovers here! We have 2 yorkies, Duke, 2 1/2 and Scout, 3 months. We just got Scout 3 weeks ago. He's 2 lbs. and a ball of fire! The boys are adjusting to each other, although Duke is wondering what happened to his happy home!!! We will be spending a few days next week on vacation in a hotel with the boys. We have taken Duke when he was very young with no barking problems but after he turned 6mos. he became more protective and would yap at every noise he heard (in a hotel room). Scout isn't a barker yet. My main question is: Do you put your yorkies in a crate or kennel while you are out of the room? I bought a wire kennel for Scout, but he has never been in it. Duke has never been kenneled before either. I'm wondering about the two of them in a kennel together for a few hours because when they play/fight at home, Scout is always chewing on Dukes ears and nipping at him until Duke gets aggravated at him and moves to higher ground!!!! I'm afraid it might be too much closeness for them confined together. Thanks for any of your thoughts on this. I have really enjoyed finding this website and have gained alot of useful information about these little fur babies!

I know the answer! About 2 weeks after getting my Tony, my boyfriend and I drove from IL to FL and stayed there for almost 2 weeks (we went all over FL) anyways, I kept my lil man in a crate. How would you feel if room service came to clean the room and your babies got out? especialy if you are staying in a motel and they get into the parking lot or off of the balcony? I know I would be heart broken. Even if you do tell them "no cleaning service" (which I did) they still come... You have to make a big deal about it for them not to come. Only bad thing tho is that Tony figured out how to break out of his crate, even with snaps on the corners, he is so tiny he can squeeze out. But definately put yours in a crate when you aren't there. If one is posessive, maybe bring your xpen or another crate.... maybe bring a baby gate so you can keep them in only a portion of the room... be creative, but definately keep something between them and the door when you aren't there

You are so lucky to be able to take your babies with you. I also have 2, my Yorkie is 11 months and my Cockapoo is 9 weeks. They also play fight and sometimes my yorkie gets to rough. I would definatly crate them. I have always crate trained my pets for their own protection. I would also bring 2 crates. What I do is put the crates open sides together, so they can see and smell each other. That way they don't feel like they have been left alone. But there is no danger of fighting while they are unsupervised. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Just wanted to mention that some of the hotels that do take pets will not allow you to leave them in the room unsupervised. We traveled from Texas to Maryland & back with Little Bit last month and I was pretty uncomfortable with the situation most of the time. I told my husband that I really didn't like having to stay in crummy hotels and then worry if we were going to get thrown out if Little Bit barked. Also, we weren't really able to eat at any nice restaurants or do any tour type things or go to any shows, etc. I really hate to leave her at the puppy spa but she may be restricted to the trips in which we take our rv. That way I can leave her in my own air conditioned space without having to be concerned too much. The very idea of leaving her behind upsets me so much that I'm not sure cruises or car trips are going to be very much fun either way. We are taking a cruise in October which will be her first time to stay at the puppy spa overnight so I'll just have to see how that goes. I think they just come in for a few hours on Sunday and I can't bear knowing she would be there for hours with no one watching her. Please let us know how your trip works out. God bless.

I know longer travel cause I'd miss my Debbie too much. We are going to the yorkie ball but Dogs are welcomed there. I had free plane tickets when she was 6 months old, but I really missed her so I haven't been anywhere without her since. I agree with the above posts. I could see sneeking a dog into a dump for a quick over night stay but even that could be risky with a barker. I would be afraid to leave my dog in the room alone but even if you do that, the rules usually call for them to be crated. Since your two are best buds yet, an investment in a separate crate is well worth it.

Welcome to YT. You might try leaving the tv or radio on to see if that helps. I would quietly wait outside the room for awhile to see how they are. Mine would bark at everything so we have to get food to go and eat with them. We mostly go places that we can take our dogs with us because we hate to leave them with someone else. I would definately separate them.

I know last year I took a vacation and I checked out hotels that take pets. And some of them do provide pet care. You might want to check that out also. And also I know in NH there are pet friendly hotels that have outside kennels attached to your room so you can let the dogs stay out there. Me I take mine with me everywhere. I even take him into the stores I take him in a stroller or I have him in a puppy pouch on my chest. Everyone loves to see that. I like the pet friendly hotels though. They leave a doggy cookie on the floor for Babybear. It is on a little dish. lol
