Good luck and best wishes to both of you.
Vet costs on a pup such as this can run into many thousands of dollars. I have known people who got them and spent more than $20,000 in vet bills. Some had a live pup at the end of it some did not.
It may not be our place to tell Vanessa whether or not to buy it, but it is certainly our responsibilty to provide the information to base that decision on.
Testing at this age can be misleading. After a pup is born, the mothers system is no longer sustaining its life. It is now up to the pup to do that with its own system. Sometimes it takes many months even a year or more for decline. Sometimes decline is quick. Testing on a very young pup, may show minimal results but a totally different story 6 months or a year later. It just took that long for the condition to become measurable.

I don't have any answers for you. All I can really say, is Venus is 3 months, and when we went to the vet over a week ago, she was at 2 pounds. I don't know what the normal weight is for a yorkie that age, but my vet was pleased with 2 lbs, she's grown since her last visit.

When I first got her, I gave her neutra-cal regular, those first 5 days, since she seemed to be having separation anxiety from her mom. She's all over that now.

I can't say whether or not to get that pup, thats your decision. Just letting you know about mine, and her weight. I wish you luck in finding the dog of your dreams.

Hun, as much as I loved my Lily,a pup with that kinda of trouble can cost you literially thousands of dollars. I got Lily from ingorant and careless person who won't neuter her dogs. She says " theres always homes for free small mutts." and when I told her how ,uch I paid put to keep Lily as long as I did. She told me first sezuire I should have put her down. none of the others had that trouble. I had to get away from her I almost lost it.

if I was to get a purebred dog {yorkie} I'd want proof the parents have been to the vet and had all the proper checks and vacs. and a health gurantee. I'm sorry but a baby already having troubles staying stable. No I'd pass. period. Having lived thru having Lily for such a short time.

I'd pass. there's something the breeder's not telling you. or is too cheap or stupid to find out what's wrong with this baby.

Too cheap or stupid on the breeders part is likely right on the money. And money is the issue, get it sold, money int he bank and that's the end of it. I have seen these type before and if the pup dies it is the new owners fault, never theirs.

When I got Cali at 9 weeks old last year she had 3 hypoglycemic attacks that required ER vet visits. That cost over 2,000. total. She was tested for Liver shunt and had higher than normal levels so this resulted in more test and when she was spayed at 8 months another 2800.00. In Cali's first year with me vet bills have totaled over 6000.00. She was the runt of the litter and 1 lb at 10 weeks, she has since grown to almost 5 lbs. I am not working so it was much easier to keep an eye on her and I always took her in at the least sign of illness. I had to feed her every 3 hours for months and she was a picky eater so I had to sit and make sure she ate. Cali did have a very mild internal liver shunt but they don't believe that was causing the episodes. SHe did grow out of them but not until she was over 6 months old. At the very least, ask for a Bile acid test and blood work. I know personally I will not take a puppy that is not Bile Acid tested ever again. There is a lot of worry and heartache when these babies go down fast, not to mention the financial. I really feel bad you have a tought decision to make and just wanted to share my experiences. I love Cali to pieces so it was worth it, but fortunatley Cali grew out of her problems and I was able to comeup with t he vet fees. Good luck let us know what you decide.

If this were one of mine, I would be keeping it to at minimum a year of age, if it still was on this earth. By then, it would be showing me if there was anything further wrong with it or it would have gotten over whatever was going on.
Yorkies were not meant to be this size. Some are and are healthy but there is the greater risk that it is not. It could end up being a tragedy for you, or a series of very high Vet bills and that is assuming you have a Vet that knows what they are doing. Not all Vets have a clue about Toy dogs much less one this undersized.

The breeder I got Piper from said the same thing. She didn't eat much, & she had hypoglycemia. Hah! She also said she had taken her to a vet to be checked. Well, after getting her at 13 weeks she weighed 1.6. She also had coccidia, & giardia which causes anorexia. Took us a month to get her better.
She didn't have hypoglycemia, she was just filled with parasites. She is now 6 months & weight over 6 lbs. I was told she wouldn't weigh over 4. So I just wonder what else. We still love her, but it is not what we expected.

I would not buy a sick puppy , if your heart is really set on purchasing this one than wait it out. If she is not eating and having attacks at the breeders the stress and anxiety she will feel when she arrives in your home will bring on another one. My nyx was 1lb 5oz at 14 weeks, when she came home she was in a new environment and didn't want to eat she was pretty much on Nutrical, but I was home watching her like a hawk to make sure she was ok. She never showed any signs of illness but that did not stop me from worrying due to her size and age.

Before you even consider purchasing a pup so small, you need to read Brittie's site and all of it:

If you will be only 3 or 4 hours with the puppy , why don't you buy a stuff dog?
This way the puppy will be healthy and won't miss the presence of humans .

I hate to say this but, I would have to agree with your BF...If you love this little furbaby now(and you don't even have her home yet) imagine how much more you are going to love her once you've had her for a while and them something happens to her...You would be devastated...JMO
