Just another walk...

I took Yoda for a walk yesterday afternoon and encountered a few doggies. First was our neighbor's golden retriever (I think), about 6 months old. She gets so confused when she sees Yoda because she can't figure out what Yoda is. She gets all hyper and jumps everywhere and my neighbor can hardly control her because she's so active at that moment. It's just so funny to see because Yoda is all calm about it and so cool.

Next along our walk, we spotted an English bulldog. Yoda was definitely this little boy bulldog's cup of tea, as the bulldog kept sniffing Yoda over and over while Yoda just stood still, unamused. He didn't want to go when his parents wanted him to and kept looking back at me and Yoda. We started to cross the street (away from the bulldog), but the bulldog BROKE FREE from the boy holding the leash and dragged the leash into the middle of the street! I calmly held onto the bulldog (us still being in the middle of the street) while he just wanted to sniff more of Yoda. It's insane how Yoda can captivate other dogs so much sometimes! Luckily, there weren't too many cars out and thus no one was injured.

I'm thankful Yoda is so smart and listens to our commands for the most part. He doesn't try to break away from us and likes to stay by our sides. Although when he was little, he always loved to poop in the middle of the street while we were crossing! :P

Yoda is one smart little yorkie boy!! For the most part Gypsy Rose also obeys us BUT not so good as she's got older! She's either good or bad LOL. Ana xxx

Sounds like you had a wonderful day, good thing that Yoda is good for you. I get a little nervous when I see other dogs coming by, I usually pick up my boys, I don't want the other dogs thinking that they are fair game, especially when the others aren't on leashes...Theresa

Yes, that is a good idea, also, you never know if other dogs have have tics or fleas! The last time Yoda got fleas we're sure it's from one of the scraggly dogs that he played with that didn't look so clean!

fasteddie ... Yoda is too cool! I can just see him letting himself be sniffed ... Toto would have been trying to "shinnie" up our leg! Does he wear cologne? I always pick Toto up when we encounter other dogs until we decide if it looks safe for them to meet! We even pick her up when we encounter strange children! Yep! "Here comes Pat & Bettye with Toto ... don't touch her ... you know how "over-protective" they are!!"

It must be "the over protective parent" signal that jumps in as I too pick up Schatzie when there is another dog coming towards or around us. You just never know until you find out what the situation is.

Schatzie does NOT like kids. Never been around them since birth so I am not sure what has made her choose this feeling. She has only met kids (most young teens so not small and jumpy little kids) when we camp. But boye does she not even look at them. It's like she senses something odd.

All this and only being 5 months, baffles me!!

She is also afraid of the dark. Is this normal I wonder? She sits by my side and gives out small growls and low barks under her breath. She acts nervous and doesn't really like peeing outside unless I am right by her. I have never ever known dogs to be afraid of the dark. Schatize normally has no fear of anything. She cracks me up!

Fast eddie - your experience today was a doozy!! Where we live in the country I honestly do not want Schatzie coming in contact with the dogs out here in our area. Mangy mutts uncared for to be honest with you. Who knows what she could catch??

Nothing wrong with being overly protective! Yoda is spoiled in every way imaginable, of course. We really don't smell 'dog' on him at all, except maybe if he plays all day with other dogs. He smells good to us, except for an occasional bout of bad breath, but I have that problem at times too. :P

It's smart for Yorkies to avoid small children, they like to swing their hands and GRAB any pets. Yoda knows better and always avoided his cousins until they get older (3 or older seemed to be good to him) and learned that Yoda was gentle and learned how to interact with Yoda. Now Yoda loves to play with his cousins, they're best of friends!

I don't know about being afraid of the dark, though. You could take her out on a leash at nighttime and let her know its okay out there, at least when Mom is around!

fasteddie ... and I thought Toto was the only one who never smelled like a dog!! I can't stand for her to smell! Dr. Lucy told us that we could bathe her as often as we liked ... I know there are lots who disagree with this ... but ... as long as her skin and coat are healthy [and they are] she said it was OK! I take her to the vet about once a month and it's more for me, I guess, than for Toto! Toto likes children but I don't allow anyone younger than 14 to hold her! The little grandchildren are allowed to play with her but they have to be on the carpet, on the floor and she can crawl on them all they want! If they begin trying to "restrain" her she immediately looks for an adult lap and quits playing with them!
Sheryl, maybe Shatzie's fear of the dark will pass! Since you are out in the country, did your vet caution you of predator birds? They will swoop down and grab our little babies! When we are camping we put two X-pens inside a Gazebo where Toto can play and exercise if we don't have her on her leash or holding her! Our little babies require lots of attention ... but they are certainly worth it!!

Actually my friend informed me about the owls. She sold a Yorkie to a family. This family took their new baby outside to go potty on a leash. Not sure if it was at night but a owl came down and the family and owl were playing tug of war with this baby Yorkie. ( the Yorkie recovered/lived )

Can you imagine the fear?!

So, yes I am very uneasy at night when Schatzie goes potty. Infact, I usually bring our bigger dog with us and I hover over Schatzie as she goes.

We DO HAVE OWLS here and it freaks me out! I would just die if something happened to her!

I was amazed to learn about predators ... never having owned a pet this small! God help the one that ever tries to get Toto ... I tell my husband "that thing better be prepared to pick up 120 lbs. plus Toto's 4 lbs.!!"

When Charlie see big dogs he barks at them like he is going to attack them it is so funny. Yoda is such a good boy not to act like charlie.

You just gotta love the brave heart of all Yorkies... Yoda is such a big boy...
Whenever Cookie sees other dogs she just wants to play and play!!!! Needless to say if it is a dog she's never been around I do not put her down 'cause you just never know and our babies are just tooo precious!!!!

Ahia is also afraid of the dark. It is hard to keep her out side to potty when it is time to go to bed for the night.
Here I go with one of my stories again.
Buckeye is really bad about other dogs. He don't like for any other dog to invade his street. One day this big dog (he walks by every day) was going past led by his elderly owner. Buckeye slipped out the door while my husband was examining the door. Buckeye went after the big dog. That dog picked him up in his mouth. scared me to death the man was scared too and the dog let him go. If he wanted to hurt him he could have very easily. And Buckeye goes after him every time he goes by. I just can't keep him from acting that way with that dog.
Both my yorkies wear harnesses also. i had to buy buckeye one for a cat.

Yoda is just so picky about every dog he meets, a bit snobbish, but we don't mind! :P
He prefers playing with certain kinds of big dogs, but once in a while, he'll have a great time with a little dog as well. Some owners are totally snobbish too, so it's sometimes awkward.

Wow, Buckeye sure is brave! Amazing the big dog realized Buckeye wasn't food! I've seen a big dog think Yoda was food before, and it was VERY SCARY!!! We haven't been back to that dog park since, many owners seemed oblivious to what their dogs were doing out there.
