| Cotton / Silky coat? I've been reading a lot of posts about furkids having either silky or cottony coat. Also, someone posted about looking how their eyes come out in the pictures (blue/green = silky, red = cottony). How can you tell looking at the fur though? By the amounts of matting? The color?? Do they all get silky coat when grown up? I'm really confused, never had a Yorkie before J.J, sorry if the question seems silly but I really got no idea??

| I'm still trying to learn myself.....bumping this up for you. Maybe someone will have some answers. Even though I think Mimi is going to have cotton coat and Timmy is going to have the silk coat. I noticed that Mimi's hair matts up easily and Timmy never matts. |

| I have one of each and the eye color in pictures in really true. I have no idea how to tell when they are little though. Their coats change so much in the first 6 months alone. I would also love to know the answer to this question for the next baby we get. Lisa |

Your question isn't silly. Soft Coated yorkies usually have alot of fur on their feet. Looks like fluffy bedroom slippers. A silk coated yorkie is cool to the touch even when the weather is warm. Soft coated yorkies feel warm to the touch. Most and I say most of the time the coat stays black and as it matures it changes to a clerical gray. The head clears to a tan. There are several books explaining this. But, you can go to YTCA.org and purchase a illustrated book on the standard. Hope I helped a little. | |
