| Newbie Owner (Give me your knowledge) :) I am planning on getting a Yorkie. It will be my first dog. At the moment, I have two planted aquariums (5 gallon, 20 gallon). I am ready to add a new companion to my already great companions. I would like to know any info you can give for a newbie owner. Some things I'd be interested in: Terrier or Yorkie book/dvd recommendations, special accessories, food recommendations, Yorkie info sites, and any other knowledge you'd like to share. |

As far as food, whatever your breeder is feeding is probably what you will stay with initially. Then, slowly introduce any new food. There are numerous good foods out there, Merricks, Royal Canin, Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul, etc. Do your research and often it depends on just what they will eat. When will you be getting your yorkie? Good luck and congratulations. You've come to a great place for advice, friendship and more.

yorkiegirl2, haha, I've noticed. I was reading a few threads and I heard people constantly mentioning their yorkies. jencar98, thanks for the book recommendation. I'll check it out on Amazon. As for the food, yup, I will ask the breeder what he/she has been feeding him so I can continue the same and gradually change him over to some brand of food (don't know which yet). I don't have a set date of when I will be getting my Yorkie. I have to find a breeder first. | |

| Energetic and intelligent little dogs. Just be sure you are willing to dedicate your time and affection. They don't like to be alone. Also, use a harness not a collar. They have delicate tracheas that can be easily injured by tugging on a collar. Here are some more suggestions: http://www.dogs-central.com/dogs-pup...ier-books.html

| Thank you all for the great welcome. I do know these guys need attention, and I have plenty of time so there's no problems there. yorkieusa, thanks for the info. I'll get a harness on my next trip to the pet store. Thanks for the links. I'm buying a hand full of dog training DVD's and puppy DVD's as well as some specific Yorkshire books. I already have two training books, The Simple Guide To House Training, and The Simple Guide To Dog Training. I used The Simple Guide books when I was first learning about fish and they are the most accurate book out there for that hobby (there is a lot of missinformation involving fish keeping), so I trust them to do their job for other subject. I will as I said, be getting some specifically Yorkshire books as well though. Thanks again for the welcome and information. |

| Welcome!!! I bought "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Yorkies"..and it's great! It starts out as if a yorkie is right for you, to finding a breeder, to food, grooming, training...everything! I definitly recommend it.
