| Yorkies and Winter Time I am a new Yorkie owner. What can I expect this winter? Will my Yorkie want to go outside to go to the bathroom? Do they like snow? I imagine some do, and some don't. Do they get cold easily? Do you put sweaters on them? I took Sadie out this morning, and the grass had lots of dew on it. She did not like it, and I had to dry her off before coming inside. Thanks. | Tia doesn't like to go outside until it is warm out and absolutely HATES the dewy grass so I have to wait until it has gone away to bring her out - it doesn't snow here, so I have NO idea what her reaction to that would be!

| How do you handle that then, if she won't go out if the grass is dewy? Is she also trained to go indoors, in a box? Kate Quote:

| I am in the process of training her - but yes, she has an area in the laundry room (tiled) which is her potty area, I am working on getting her to go outside as well.

| Will my Yorkie want to go outside to go to the bathroom? Gus has no problem going out in the snow but hates the rain. Do they like snow? I imagine some do, and some don't. Gus likes snow but I'm sure some don't. Their paws can't take the snow for long and it gets caught in their fur in little balls. Do they get cold easily? Yes, very easily. Do you put sweaters on them? Yes and if it is really cold I have a faux fur coat made for very cold weather.

| From my experience they do get cold. I live in Florida and when the temperature goes below 72 degrees they are shivering like crazy when I take them out. I would wrap them in a fleece blanky and they wouldcalm down after 10 min or so. Now I just put a sweater or hoodie on them if it is in th e 60's . Cookie didn't like to even touch the wet grass! Now both my yorkies play in the yard 100% supervised. They do their business if we are outside for a while but they are pad trained indoors. It rains too much where I live from now until June. I dont even want to get into the Hurricane season! ugh Genie |

| Snow balls Hey I live in Virginia and get a nice variety of weather in the winter I usually have to snow shovel a place for my guys to mill around in and go to the bathroom in. If they want to go exploring they are usually good and can walk ontop of the snow, 'specially if it iced. Panzer loves the snow but his fur is the type that balls the snow making him into a snow dog, so I have to defrost him in the tub with warm water when I get in the snow is so packed into his fur. It doesnt happen to all our yorkies only some. I know he gets cald but I let him on a leash to explore since he enjoys it and if he could he would keep going and freeze to death so I try to use my best judgement of when he's had enough snow. Our dogs dont like rain or getting their butts wet. I think they can deal with the dew on the ground but I think if they really dont want to go on the ground they go on our porch! |

| Lexi loves to go out no matter what the weather is. Her favorite time to go out is early in the morning when the grass is dewy. She loves to get wet, (but hates baths, I know doesn't make much sense) In the winter she does wear a coat and little shoes.

| We don't have snow here in San Diego but we get plenty of rain. Right now we have no landscaping and there are coyotes and hawks in our area so i don't like the yorkies to be outside. They are trained to go potty inside on wee wee pads in litter boxes and frames. It's not perfect but it works. |

| Will my Yorkie want to go outside to go to the bathroom? Mason is pad trained, and hates to go outside in the rain or snow. He'll just stand still at the door and look up at me like, "I know you're not expecting me to go out there!!" Do they like snow? I imagine some do, and some don't. Mason will walk on snow, but his legs will get really wet and soon enough he'll start shivering. Do they get cold easily? yes!! He shivers in 50 degree weather. Do you put sweaters on them? I try, but Mason actually hates wearing anything. WHen I finally get a sweater on, he'll fight with me to get it off...and when it's finally off, there's so much static and matting that I have to brush him right away and he hates that as well I took Sadie out this morning, and the grass had lots of dew on it. She did not like it, and I had to dry her off before coming inside. I'm live in area where there's no grass for dew to accumulate on, but I DO wipe his feet before getting back inside and he starts jumping on my white bed!! |
