here's a favorite.. i had forgotten about it until this morning when i was driving through the Tim Horton's drive-thru.. i usually bring layla on car rides cause she likes them so she is in her carrier in the passenger seat and i can't even count how many times i have been asked if that is a cat... come on now people! LOOK

No one has said anything about my almost 13 lb. Yorkie, but if they do I am going to tell them it is a breed called a "Giant Yorkie".

LOL they might be small but they certainly don't look like a cat!!

I'm just the opposite. It doesn't tick me off at all. I have a big Yorkie (about 9 or 10 pounds).... and people often say, "What kind of dog is that?" or "Isn't that a Yorkie?"

And I always say -- "Yes - but he's a big Yorkie. Probably most of the Yorkies you have seen are smaller, but this little guy is bigger than most."

My Yorkie and I love his size. He is a wonderful size - less than 10 pounds - just perfect.

Let's face it - if we have a "big Yorkie" --- we have a "big Yorkie."

Yorkie owners are soooooooooooooooooo sensitive. What would you think if you had a big lab or a big any breed....(I mean any dog that is larger than most dogs its same breed are.) And, what if people commented on it. I hardly think any of us would care.

Plus - I have had so many people say to me that they would like a Yorkie my dog's size if they got one. They think he's great. And he is - he's very friendly, and loveable, and affectionate. He makes friends wherever he goes.

I can't imagine why anyone would think a comment about their dog's size is rude. How can commenting on a dog's size possibly be rude. But - apparently, it's a very touchy subject for a lot of people.

I'll bet those of you who have people come up and say, "Oh, your dog is so tiny....." don't mind this a bit. You don't consider this a rude remark, do you?

Ok, this is what urks me. When people makes stupid comments. The one I hear ALL THE TIME when people walk by us they say, "oh, look at Killer!"
WHY!?!?!?! He isn't barking or being aggressive in any way. He weighs all of 6.8 pounds and is very polite. Don't these people watch the news? Killers are mean and usually much bigger!!!

When I first got Louie one of my daughters friends ( who was always a little jealous of my daughter and anything she ever had anyways) says, eww his head is too big for his body", and started laughing....well guys, that is the last time that little &*^&* was in my house lol. Now you look at this pic of my little Louie and tell me how anyone could EVER say anything bad about him.

We went to Petco yesterday and it was my first time there. We were like the only ones there, and one of the workers picked up Rocky and was saying "oh your so cute blah blah blah"... How do you say "dont pick up my dog" w/o being rude? Everyone there was so friendly to us, and giving him treats and helping me pick out stuff for him, I didn't have it in me to be a bitch at that moment.

I just wanted to say that's great that you explain to people how your yorkie is bigger. When I first started researching yorkies I read the standard, and then got confused when I saw t-cups and t-pots. I wondered if they were mixed or another breed. People need to realize that not everyone knows about yorkies, so if someone makes a comment like "is that a real yorkie" why not inform them instead of getting pist? If someone says comments to be rude, that's one thing, but if they don't know, then inform them about it. One day I finally asked my friend about the sizes, she has a t-pot, and she kindly explained to me that some are bigger, some are smaller. She didn't feel the need to be a snob about to me either.

Rae Rae -- I don't care if someone picks up my dog occasionally. If I were worried about other people handling or touching my dog - I think PetCo or PetSmart would be the last place I'd go. And, If it really bothered me, I probably wouldn't take him a lot of other places either.

I've never had a dog in my entire life that other people couldn't handle and pet. And, I'm not going to start now that I have a little Yorkie. Actually, now that I'm think about it - very few people have actually ever lifted him up and held him, but a lot of people do stop and talk to him and pet him..... I'm glad they do. That's the reason I take him with me. So he can make new friends and meet different people (and animals).

You might hold your dog in my your arms so another person can't pick him up. If he's in a cart, you could hook him to the cart so that no one cantake him out.

I guess you just have to be creative, stay at home, or let someone pick up your dog once in a while.

Thanks, but it's actually only happened like twice when someone actually picked him up. I don't mind people petting him at all, but I just think it's rude to go and pick up a strangers dog w/o asking first. For these very few people, I dont want to keep Rocky at home.

I met a lady the other night with her Yorkie (Billy) and she acted embarrassed and said he was a bit overwieght. I swear, this guy was TINY. Abby and Kasey are 5 1/2 lbs and 3 lbs, respectively and this guy fell right in between them with his size. I was shocked and wanted to ask "overwieght compared to what?!"
