Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Why do Yorkies lick? I've come to the conclusion that Eddie licks because he's bored. He's trying to get my attention. For anyone else with a licker, what's your guess?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I think it's a security thing maybe ? Chanel LOVES to lay and just lick the crook of my arm....she closes her eyes and it's almost like she's nursing lol - I had a cat that was taken from her mom too soon and she would lick SO bad she gave hickeys.... |

| When Sissy licks deeply without stopping, it is usually a sign that she is thirsty. If I get a small dixie cup of water, she will take a big drink and stop licking. There are times where she licks just because she likes to lick!!

| I have two that lick, but they only lick my son. They would lick for hours if I'd let them. Not sure what the reasoning behind it is, but they don't lick my husband or I very much at all, just my son.

| Dougal Licks himself when he's depressed or bored. I went away on holiday last year when I came back he'd licked the skin off on little spots on his forelegs!! With Dixie on the other hand its a dominance thing. She'll leap on a person and lick and lick their nose and mouth - a trainer once said she's not being cuddly she's saying "kiss me now B*tch". I notice she'll do it to dougal and other dogs that she wants to boss. But I imagine that Dixie being pushy comes as no surprise to anyone!

| Jo licks his feet when he's getting ready to go to sleep. I thought it was food allergies so I switched his food...he still licks his feet but his coat looks great! |

| Charlie licks and licks and licks... Just people though. Arms, hands, feet, faces, doesn't matter to him. He'd go for hours if you let him. Why he does it, who knows, but it's annoying and we're trying to break him of it. |

| some lick to get the salt from your skin, some lick there selfs cos they are bored and can be a nerves thing but others lick just cos they love you, after sasha had tye and zac she started washing me too lol she would wash my hands and arms and if i took them away she would get upset, tye and zac give only kisses, annie will give my hand a few licks if im stroking her just to say i love you and brandi will lick any bit of your skin if it goes anywhere near her face just to say i love you and i think it makes her feel better.

| OH I'VE GOT A LICKER TOO!!! Lucy licks my hands, my toes, my face...but it doesn't stop there. She licks the RUG (!!!!????), my sheets...where ever she happens to be hanging out. Not tile or wood floors...just rug areas. Very persistent too. When licking the rug she licks the same spot until it separates...I was wondering what she's looking for? I was JUST about to put the question out there to others!!! DOES ANYBODY KNOW if this might be indicative of allergies?? I try to stop her when I see her licking the rug.... |

| Piper doesn't lick much, but her sissy Misha which is a full Maltese gives me a bath at night. When it is time for bed Misha will lay next to me licking my arm, until I tell her to stop. I thought it was the salty taste she liked, because when she is done she drinks a lot of water. |

| I've got a licker here too! I don't mind the oh I'm so happy to see you lick when I pick him up but I don't like the slow methodical there's no reason to be licking licks . I always try and say no and discourage it. I have a small scratch on my leg and he always wants to lick that too. Someone told me dogs have something on their tongues that heal cuts but I don't know about that. I stick with the Neosporin!

| I have a licker too. Sprout loves to give kisses, you can't pick him up without getting kisses. My other three aren't lickers. Sprout is also a chewer, wonder if that has anything to do with licking.
